The Wyndham Championship marks the last event of the season where players can earn FedExCup Points and move into the top-125 to make the Playoffs, which start next week at The Northern Trust. Headlining the field this week is Henrik Stenson, who’s currently ranked No. 9 in the Official World Golf Rankings. Joining him is Kevin Kisner, who held the 54-hole lead at last week’s PGA Championship before finishing T7, along with notables Davis Love III, Jason Dufner, Ernie Els, Harris English, James Hahn, Billy Horschel, Graeme McDowell, Kevin Na and Harold Varner III.

Last year, Si Woo Kim won the Wyndham Championship by five strokes after firing a second-round 60. Kim, however, will not be in the field this year to defend his title; he withdrew from the PGA Championship after one round with a back injury.

I wonder how many copies of the irons and the 3wood Henrik has in his garage?

Who has the old Legacy Blacks?

It’s actually for the opposite reason. Rust makes the surface rougher which increases friction. More friction increases spin.

Also reduces glare. Sometimes the sun can reflect off your wedge right back into your grill. Not when it’s rusted over…

Why not have all irons raw so they can rust up too?

GolfWRX is live from the U.S. Women’s Amateur at the Golf Club of Tennessee in Kingston Springs, a venue which most recently hosted the 2006 Tennessee State Open.

The USGA fielded a record 1,468 entries for the competition, in which Kristen Gillman, Kaylee Benton, Laren Stephenson, and Jiwon Jeon are still alive in match play.

From WITB looks to shots of the superb Fazio course to some high art calligraphy (see below) we have it all.

10 interesting photos from Tuesday at the PGA Championship

Published

on

GolfWRX is live from the PGA Championship at Bellerive Country Club where the game’s best are tuning up for the final major of the year.

We have plenty of photos for your viewing pleasure, and you can find all our galleries from Monday and Tuesday, well, in the hyperlinks in “Monday” and “Tuesday.” What follows is a curation of 10 interesting photos.

With respect to the aforementioned tuning up, many pros were doing it in shorts, per the PGA of America’s relaxed pre-tournament leg baring regulations (blasphemy!).

Thus, it was a different kind of leg day at the PGA. How about Phil with the calves?

The Scotty Cameron jester stamp is underrated. Yes or no?

It looks like somebody has dropped their…playing cards, yes, playing cards, that’s right…next to Danny Balin’s bag

Zach Johnson is now a TaylorMade staffer? What? He just switched whole cloth. Crazy! (This bag belongs to PGA Pro Zach Johnson who qualified for the tournament, not the PGA Tour’s ZJ)

Well, that’s quite the putter grip, Brian Smock…

Rory McIlroy is reportedly considering playing the final major of the year left-handed, inspired by our editor Andrew Tursky

While Brian Smock’s putter “grip” is highly questionable, his wedge game is on point (c/o Anthony Taranto, no doubt)

Eddie Pepperell with spotted with a Bettinardi in the bag

Forgive the 3-in-1 photo love, but we believe Jimmy Walker’s wand is Tyson Lamb’s first putter on the PGA Tour.

Also on the putter firsts front: Charles Howell III is one of the first players we’ve seen with the new Scotty Cameron CX-01 in the bag.

Tuesday’s photos from the 2018 PGA Championship at Bellerive

Published

on

GolfWRX is live from the 2018 PGA Championship at par-70 Bellerive Country Club in Town and Country, Missouri.

The 7,317-yard track will play host to a major championship for just the third time in its history as one of the most venerable clubs in the St. Louis area. The most recent PGA Tour event contested at Bellerive was the 2008 BMW Championship, and the Robert Trent Jones track was also the venue  for the 2013 Senior PGA Championship.

Last week’s winner, Justin Thomas, is the fourth major’s defending champion, and he’ll look to hold off a field that features all but two of the top 112 golfers in the world all looking to snatch the Wanamaker Trophy. Thomas, Dustin Johnson, and Rory McIlroy enter as favorites.
