And furthermore, I have yet to find a fitter send the customer to the repair shop to have 2 1/4″ lopped off the butt end of their BRAND NEW driv’a!! That will NEVER happen! Here in the states, you can find barrel after barrel of 45.5″ plus drivers gathering dust in the return bins. I bet those bins would be less full if the original purchasers of said clubs were properly fitted into 45″ or less.

Whaaat?!! Manufacturers are NOT making clubs for 5’9″ or better, that’s nonsense! When did the average height of most golfers become 6′ or more. They just selling distance at ANY cost. You want people to excel at the game, make the clubs a reasonable length or encourage alleged retail fitters to fit properly! Giving some rook golfer a 46″ driver and calling it a fitting is ludicrous. The average customer at a golf shop has zero clue about proper length for effective ball striking. Most are like “Uhhh, yeah, ehh, so and so is hittin’ this brand, so I want one too.!” They’re just buying what’s on the shelf. It’s like buying a Porsche, you can walk in and buy it stock, or if one is an enthusiast with knowledge of “tuning” custom options, you’ll go that route and score yourself a road car.
Yes, accomplished golfers know that 44.5″ is the most effective length, just go ask Mr. Wishon, if you have any doubts. I said it once and I’ll say it again, “Manufacturers, WAKE UP and market clubs that benefit golfers new to the game. What’s that tired phrase that makes me nauseous? “Let’s grow the game.”

Really interesting to see how far RF was hitting it with a shorter shaft. No distance loss whatsoever. My next driver will be 44.5 at the most.

Wake up golf manufacturers!!! No, we do not need drivers 45.75″ long EVER!! Been whining about this for years, and I will continue to stock up on tissue ’till you start offering drivers at reasonable lengths at retail. 44.5 should be the max length for any driver, period! Why must y’all insist on selling us distance dead left and dead right? This kid, all be it a professional, was slingin’ golf balls 320 yawwwds plus AND straight with the 43.5″er! Well done Ricky, you iz da MAN!!

You can order all drivers directly from the manufacturer like this (most will keep the swing weight). If not… You can cut it. Keep in mind Rick is 5’9, manufacturers build for the masses if its going into a store.

Actually, it would be golfers who would need to wake up, not necessarily/just manufacturers. OEMs sell distance because that’s what gets people excited and talking. Watch a broadcast, listen to golfers at the local course, “straight” always comes second to “long”. I bet the majority of average golfers would take a round with two “long” drives rather than 14 short and straight.

How much shorter would a typical amateur’s drive be with an inch lopped off the driver?
They would probably be longer because they would be closer to the sweet spot.

You’re probably right. That said last I checked the average length on tour is 44.5″. Which means most recreational players should be 43.5″ to 44″ max. But hey, those miracle trouble shots out of the woods make the man.

You sound like Johnny Miller…. It wasn’t an easy day out there at the end for anyone who a late tee time. Maybe 15 guys shot under par that day. -6 and -5 were shot early (before 10 am tee times) by Vegas and Watney.

I have become a big Cobra fan lately and I have a couple of these clubs. I have hit the new F7+ and like it more than the F7, especially the look and sound. I have the King utility and the only thing that is weird about it is that the grip feels like it is either and undersize or kids grip, but other than that the club feels great. Also just bought a tour trusty 58
