Phil Mickelson changed his putting style a few weeks ago. In true Phil fashion, he’s changed his putter grip this week to match.

Mickelson’s new “pencil” grip involves running the index finger of his left hand down the grip. For a better fit, Mickelson had a SuperStroke 21-inch belly putter grip grip installed on his putter, although he cut it off at the end to make the weight closer to a conventional putter grip.

By cutting the grip down, Mickelson lost the natural taper of the putter grip. But for a tinkerer like Phil that was no problem. He created his own taper with good ‘ol electrical tape!
