Danny Willett’s brother throws shade at all Americans in fiery post

Published

on

Danny Willett, the 2016 Masters Champion and European Ryder Cup Team member, will have an extra large target on his back at Hazeltine this week due to an article posted by his outspoken brother, P.J.

Remember when P.J. had golf Twitter in stitches while live tweeting his brother’s bid to win the Green Jacket, and a made a few jokes at Jordan Spieth’s expense?

Yea, well his digs at Americans probably won’t go over as well. Below is an excerpt from his post in the National Club Golfer, where he defends his brother and his team by ripping into Americans.

Team USA have only won five of the last 16 Ryder Cups. Four of those five victories have come on home soil. For the Americans to stand a chance of winning, they need their baying mob of imbeciles to caress their egos every step of the way. Like one of those brainless bastards from your childhood, the one that pulled down your shorts during the school’s Christmas assembly (f**k you, Paul Jennings), they only have the courage to keg you if they’re backed up by a giggling group of reprobates. Team Europe needs to shut those groupies up.

They need to silence the pudgy, basement-dwelling, irritants, stuffed on cookie dough and pissy beer, pausing between mouthfuls of hotdog so they can scream ‘Baba booey’ until their jelly faces turn red.

They need to stun the angry, unwashed, Make America Great Again swarm, desperately gripping their concealed-carry compensators and belting out a mini-erection inducing ‘mashed potato,’ hoping to impress their cousin.

They need to smash the obnoxious dads, with their shiny teeth, Lego man hair, medicated ex-wives, and resentful children. Squeezed into their cargo shorts and boating shoes, they’ll bellow ‘get in the hole’ whilst high-fiving all the other members of the Dentists’ Big Game Hunt Society.

Tell us how you really feel, P.J.!

Trent from Barstool Sports has already labelled Danny Willett as Public Enemy No. 1 at Hazeltine this week, and the story is everywhere in the social media sphere. And even though captain Darren Clarke has indicated Danny doesn’t stand behind his brother’s remarks, we’re expecting the fans in Minnesota won’t be eager to make a distinction between the sentiments of the brothers Willett.

What do you think about P.J.’s remarks? Extremely out of line? Envelope-pushing pre-competition propaganda?

Great job, bro. You just made sure Danny boy will be heckled more than Sergio every time he plays on the best golf tour on earth.

In the end it looks as though Danny was absolutely correct. The American fans were disgusting pigs…

    Who cares who wins?

The obnoxiousness and unsportsmanlike behaviour from the crowd is out of control. It makes for a horrible spectacle for any real golf fan.

      Oct 2, 2016 at 5:05 am

      Absolutely agree!

I cannot believe that there was a lengthy debate about PJ, particularly when Danny doesn’t even look like it has bothered him.

The crowd have been complete muppets. That is where the focus should be. The amount of completely rubbish human beings that have been goading the European team from the crowd is uncanny.

Ban this pathetic competition to the relics of history. The idiot hot dog munching, red faced gibbons that are drunk in two bud lites have turned the competition into a farce.

        Oct 2, 2016 at 11:24 am

I agree as well. I know I gave PJ a hard time but there are some terrible golf spectators out there. With 17 grandstands throughout the course it must be a nut house.

PJ has a lot more to worry about than the Ryder Cup or Donald Trump.

    • Bill

      Sep 29, 2016 at 11:16 pm

And I don’t mean that to be cryptic. It simply means the guy is an obvious loser. Trust me, I realize I am posting on the topic – however, my hobby is golf, so I follow and comment when I see things worth commenting. I am golf fan. On the other hand, this guy is not a golf fan. He is a yeast infection.

        • Bill

          Sep 30, 2016 at 4:29 pm

Because he opened his filthly british mouth at a time when his brother and the rest of the europeans like to operate like quiet professionals. Like I said, he is a yeast infection. If he was a golf fan he would have never opened his trap.

          • Stevo

            Sep 30, 2016 at 11:19 pm

That doesn’t even go close to answering the question. You cannot possibly deduce that he isn’t a golf fan from one post about golf. Ridiculous.

            • Bill

              Oct 1, 2016 at 1:50 pm

Everyone knows golf is a game of history, character and integrity. In my opinion, to be a true fan of the game requires one to be respectful of it. He is close enough to the game and should know better. You don’t want to put a target on the back of anyone – more so your brother or Ryder Cup team.

I am happy to bring to light some of the layers of the golf game and its culture. Its ok not to understand Stevo.

                Oct 1, 2016 at 2:10 pm

Nice attempt to spin things with you faux concern about Danny. Equally impressive effort at being patronising. However, In case you missed it he is actually making fun of some idiot Americans how have zero understanding of the history, character and integrity of the game. You know, the clowns that yell out “baba booey”, “mashed potato” etc. That is all the evidence that we have in front of us. The rest is you projecting your own opinions and insecurity. Hard to argue based on the evidence that PJ is out of touch. He has a pretty good radar for pointing out the sort of behaviour they doesn’t reflect the history, character and integrity of golf.

                • Bill

                  Oct 1, 2016 at 2:34 pm

I will be the first to admit his post was very accurate and funny.

But you basically agree with me by saying “Hard to argue based on the evidence that PJ is out of touch. He has a pretty good radar for pointing out the sort of behaviour they doesn’t reflect the history, character and integrity of golf.”

He pointed out poor golf fans and idiotic American behavior but did it at the expense of himself and his brother who was getting ready to play in the RYDER CUP. He got on the soapbox talking about idiots and then became the biggest idiot of all. We can agree to disagree. He is a funny moron who I care not to talk about anymore.

                • Gary

                  Oct 1, 2016 at 2:51 pm

Agree with this. Hard to argue that PJ is not a golf fan. I see that Bill couldn’t and has now just resorted to calling him an idiot.

                • Bill

                  Oct 1, 2016 at 4:00 pm

Based on this definition you are right. He is a fan. But he is an enthusiastic devotee of a golf fan that no professional golfer would want as a brother.
                  ——
Definition of fan: an enthusiastic devotee (as of a sport or a performing art) usually as a spectator

                • Bill

                  Oct 1, 2016 at 4:05 pm

i shouldn’t speak for Danny or all professional golfers even when speaking hypothetical. I still stand by my opinion of what makes a ‘true golf fan’. When you are a fan you protect it. Not spread yeast infection on it.

                • Stevo

                  Oct 2, 2016 at 4:12 am

Good to see you have seen the light Bill! Fully respect your right to refer to PJ as a ‘yeast infection’. However, give me PJ any day over the absolute neandarthal, degenerate, chromosome missing imbeciles in the crowd at the Ryder Cup at the moment. I don’t get why they need to yell out random food items every time someone hits but it is an embarrassment. It is making it borderline unwatchable.

                  Oct 2, 2016 at 4:51 am

Give it a rest Bill. I don’t understand why you continue to give a guy who (rightfully) commented on a bunch of absolute degenerates attitude. Ever stopped to think that the shouty cretins that are turning Golf into an embarrassment might have a little more to answer for?

To give the man the benefit of the doubt, we did all learn that he has quite the sense of humor after the masters.. I do believe there is a strong possibility it’s been lost in translation between the interview and the context in which his words have been used. If he’s dead serious, then he’s a d**k head. Makes me feel kinda bad for Danny.

To anyone that’s getting down on the American’s for being upset.. that’s not really fair. We aren’t allowed to have a sense of humor anymore, or say anything that might even resemble a mean comment or else we end up on the news or something. I hope PJ is kidding, and if he isn’t, I hope he’s there Sunday so I can personally witness this train wreck in the making. If someone else doesn’t take care of him, his brother might have to do it himself once PJ ruins his career.

PJ’s [full] article is a work of genius. … and those obnoxious shouters are drunk and/or have never seen the south side of a 36 handicap. Playing with your old fraternity brothers twice a year with a case of beer strapped to your power cart doesn’t count. PJ is spot on in some of his rant.

He’s got nerve to post something like that serious or not during a time when the US is going through so much negatively and uncertainty. In addition at a time when a Legend of golf has passed and being honored by both Americans and Europeans at the Ryder Cup and Worldwide. His brother Danny (class act) should be ashamed of him & publicly set him straight. The Ryder Cup has become an amazing atmosphere and extremely intense but at the end of the day and after last putt it should be respectful win or lose. Go USA!!!

Thanks PJ. That’s exactly what we needed. Other than that, it was hilarious and pretty much spot on…..funny as hell. The only thing you didn’t count on is how PC we are over here..everybody’s decided that you “went too far”. Satire is only satire if the PC police decides that it is. Too bad, Danny’s a good guy but there’s going to be lots of those “baba-booeys” at the top of his backswing this week, which will make your point.

Go figure that a Brit would use someone’s shiny teeth as a dig. Truth is, most Europeans wish they were American. They vacation here, they go to school here, and like most of team Europe, they live here. So they can hate on us all they want, but who are they going to come crying to when they need help in a war or financially? Yeah you might beat us on the golf course, but everyone knows who is best.

Details on Justin Thomas’ driver switch at the Wells Fargo Championship

Published

on

Editor’s note: This is an excerpt from a piece our Andrew Tursky originally wrote for PGATour.com’s Equipment Report. Head over there for the full article.

So, with a couple of weeks off following his latest start at the 2024 RBC Heritage, Thomas sought to re-address his driver setup with the remote help of Titleist Tour fitting expert J.J. Van Wezenbeeck. About two weeks ago, Thomas and Van Wezenbeeck reviewed his recent driver stats, and discussed via phone call some possible driver and shaft combinations for him to try.

After receiving Van Wezenbeeck’s personalized shipment of product options while at home, Thomas found significant performance improvements with Titleist’s TSR2 head, equipped with Thomas’ familiar Mitsubishi Diamana ZF 60 TX shaft.

Compared to Thomas’ longtime TSR3 model, the TSR2 has a larger footprint and offers slightly higher spin and launch characteristics.

According to Van Wezenbeeck, Thomas has picked up about 2-3 mph of ball speed, to go along with 1.5 degrees higher launch and more predictable mishits.

“I’d say I’d been driving it fine, not driving it great, so I just wanted to, honestly, just test or try some stuff,” Thomas said on Tuesday in an interview with GolfWRX.com at Quail Hollow Club. “I had used that style of head a couple years ago (Thomas used a TSi2 driver around 2021); I know it’s supposed to have a little more spin. Obviously, yeah, I’d love to hit it further, but if I can get a little more spin and have my mishits be a little more consistent, I felt like obviously that’d be better for my driving…

“This (TSR2) has been great. I’ve really, really driven it well the week I’ve used it. Just hitting it more solid, I don’t know if it’s the look of it or what it is, but just a little bit more consistent with the spin numbers. Less knuckle-ball curves. It has been fast. Maybe just a little faster than what I was using. Maybe it could be something with the bigger head, maybe mentally it looks more forgiving.”

Courses are in great shape, the weather is more enjoyable as temps cool off, and your golf game is in peak condition after playing all summer! The best part about fall golf trips is that there are some great deals to be found at golf destinations across the country! Additionally, you can get away to the Caribbean on an all-inclusive trip or travel across the pond for some links golf in the UK or Ireland before the end of their golf season in October.

If you are happy to stay stateside this fall, here are the best golf destinations you should book for your fall trip.

Myrtle Beach, SC

Commonly known as the “Golf Capital of the World”, this coastal destination is home to over 200 golf courses making it the ideal location for a golf trip! If you’re looking for golf and accommodation onsite, choose from a wide range of resorts including favorites like Barefoot and Legends. Alternatively, you could rent a house or stay by the beach and play top tracks like Caledonia, Grande Dunes, Pine Lakes, True Blue, TPC Myrtle Beach and many more! With a plethora of options, you will be able to customize your trip to stay within budget! Fall in South Carolina is a golfer’s paradise with minimal rain, sunny skies, and temperatures in the low 80s (dipping into the 70s in later fall with lower humidity), the perfect combination for a golf trip.

Scottsdale, AZ

If you’ve never played golf in the desert, fall is the best time to do so and there is no better selection of desert layouts than Scottsdale. With a wide variety of golf resorts, courses, and attractions, it is easy to see why many professional golfers call this place home. Enjoy a golf and city trip with a stay close to the nightlife in Old Town and a tour of the local courses like Raven, McCormick Ranch, and Ocotillo. Head north of the city with a resort stay at The Westin Kierland or Hyatt Regency and play some Championship courses like TPC Scottsdale, Troon North, or Grayhawk. Or head out to the fabulous We-Ko-Pa Resort  and Golf Club and indulge in the ultimate desert golf experience. The weather in Scottsdale will be very warm (mid to high 80s), with cloudless skies and green grass contrasting the desert landscape.

Orlando, FL

The golf mecca in the state of Florida, Orlando is a great golf destination any time of the year, but fall is really where it flourishes. Course conditions are impeccable, the weather is warm with fading humidity, and there are a multitude of off-course activities for the whole family. Stay & play at some of the best golf resorts like Reunion and Omni Championsgate or tick off a bucket list course when you visit Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill. A few other reasons this destination is so popular is the wide variety of rental houses throughout the area, perfect for a large group and the quality courses to choose from including Waldorf Astoria, Celebration, Shingle Creek, and the three Disney courses! With easy accessibility through the MCO Airport, Orlando is a no-brainer for a fall golf trip.

Las Vegas, NV

PAIUTE GOLF RESORT – LAS VEGAS, NEVADA

A destination often overlooked when it comes to golf, Las Vegas in the fall is a wonderful treat! A stay on the iconic Las Vegas Strip gives you a wide range of 3 to 5-star hotel options within walking distance to the city’s biggest entertainment venues, casinos, restaurants, and more! For golf options, you will need to travel outside of the city (roughly 20 mins) to play some incredible desert layouts like Rio Secco, Revere, Cascata, and the trio of courses at Paiute Golf Resort. If you fancy a longer day trip, you can always take the hour-long drive up to Mesquite and play Wolf Creek and Conestoga for a pure desert golf experience.

Alabama – Robert Trent Jones Trail

If you’re a golf nerd (like me) and you’re looking for something a little different for your trip, look no further than the incredible RTJ Trail in Alabama. The Trail spans 11 different locations across the state with over 400 holes of golf all designed by legendary course designer Robert Trent Jones, Sr. The more popular courses on the trail are in Birmingham, Montgomery, and Auburn, making it perfect for an extended trip. Some of the best courses on the trail include Ross Bridge, Grand National (2 courses) and Capitol Hill (3 courses).Weather-wise, fall is the best time to hit the trail with average temps hovering around 80s (dipping into the 70s as fall goes on) with a limited amount of rainfall. The summer months are usually where the pricing is the highest so you can find the best deals in the fall with courses still in good condition.

There has already been a huge uptick in fall golf trip bookings, so make sure to start planning now to get the travel dates and tee times you want for your group!

GolfWRX is live this week at the Wells Fargo Championship as a field of the world’s best golfers descend upon Charlotte, North Carolina, hoping to tame the beast that is Quail Hollow Club in this Signature Event — only Scottie Scheffler, who is home awaiting the birth of his first child, is absent.

From the grounds at Quail Hollow, we have our usual assortment of general galleries and WITBs — including a look at left-hander Akshay Bhatia’s setup. Among the pullout albums, we have a look inside Cobra’s impressive new tour truck for you to check out. Also featured is a special look at Quail Hollow king, Rory McIlroy.

Be sure to check back throughout the week as we add more galleries.
