So, Billy Horschel flipped the bird on live TV…

Published

on

Amid the soggy stop-start of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, cameras panned across several players bent-necked over their smartphones in lounge chairs in TPC Louisiana’s clubhouse. There’s Rickie Fowler…and Charley Hoffman…and Billy Horschel, teeth-bared, angry eyed, thrusting forth the middle finger.

“What the heck?” You probably thought, if you were one of the few viewers still engaged in a coverage window more defined by the absence of golf than its presence.

Horschel quickly took to Twitter to clarify his one-finger salute and its intended audience (the Golf Channel’s George Savarcis).

What do you think? Should Horschel be chastised for failing to assume the cameras are always on when players are at a tournament venue? And not that we’ll ever know, given the Tour policy of not publicizing player fines, but Horschel could very well be hit in the pocketbook for his playful bird.

My take: Horschel’s immediate Twitter apology/explanation was on point. However, he should have said that while he was specifically giving Savarcis the finger, the gesture was for Mother Nature as well.

Horschel finished tied for 36th at 6-under par at the Zurich Classic.

I’m more offended by the number of hats on in the clubhouse. TPC Loiusiana must be pretty lax in the clubhouse decorum department.

What if…” So, Tiger Woods flipped bird on live TV….”
Would your opinion have changed in the comment box?

heaven forbid these guys show any personality. Please, everyone just relax. You can tell by his face that he was messing around and there was no ill intent.

Im willing to be that rhose cameras had been it there for awhile. How are they supposed to know when they are on or off if they dont tell them. He flipped someone off…big deal! For whoever said that he should be suspended, if that was the case there would probably only be 10 people allowed to play every week. At the end of the day these guys are just normal people having fun doing something they love. Saying they should get suspended for something so common is like saying that you should get fired from your job for flipping off a co-worker!

Maybe not suspended for flipping the bird. But suspended for being stupid, he knows that the camera is on when the light is on and he flips it.

I’m sure any corporation or business that has a decent discrimination, ethics, integrity and code of conduct policy would frown upon co-workers flipping off other co-workers, in jest or otherwise. This is the PGA, and I think a level of professionalism should be expected from its participants, rain delay or not.

i was totally offended by his actions…he should be suspended asap and to those who thinks it’s no big deal
It’s a shame that you’re probably passing on these morals to your children….
The whole guys just being guys rationale is why plenty of young men die early and young women aren’t safe in most circumstances
    We must stop this behavior

Who was watching anyway? The ratings for golf are small to begin with. And the ratings for people to talk about the weather delay in the golf tournament has to be nil. Horschel seems like a tool, but who cares

    It’s a finger.

If seeing someone else’s finger offends you enough to ruin your day then that’s a YOU problem.

Saw him at Firestone last year miss a putt on his #18th hole…quickly untucked his shirt and threw his hat on backwards while still on the green and didn’t shake the volunteers hands (only player not to do this). He then promptly went to the tent cursing up a storm about his round.
Class act, not surprised by this at all. Guy is a spoiled punk.

I saw it live. He was just goofing around. Golfers are the biggest joksters of all athletes. He shouldn’t have done it and I’m sure he get fined. But it’s not a big deal. He did apologize and that was the right think to do. I think Horshel is a good guy. He is well liked on tour

Who cares about Horschel? Dude probably whined that it was too humid outside before it rained.

  21. gofish721

    May 2, 2016 at 1:32 pm

Who really cares… and who really saw it live anyways. If the media said nothing about, then his buddy George would be the only one who knew Billy did it. Find something newsworthy. Maybe flip it at the media for being over-analytical/anal/stupid just to make a paycheck.

Next will be a timely story on someone’s loud fart on the 1st tee…

In this day and age, I mean, what does it matter? Glad he apologized, if only to let kids know it’s not cool.

I wasn’t watching when it happened. Sure seems harmless to me. Had I been watching I’m sure I would have cackled out loud laughing.

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.

For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • btyh: “Holy offset.”
  • Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
  • bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing

Published

on

As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.

Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.
