The GolfWRX forums exist so golfers have access to the latest equipment releases, hottest discussions, real equipment reviews, best instruction, new technologies and everything golf you can imagine.

So if you love golf, the GolfWRX forums are your sanctuary.

In the From the Forums weekly feature, we bring you the hottest, most buzz-worthy topics from our forums for your convenience. I’ll be your trusty tour guide to navigate the latest buzz.

Here’s a peek behind the curtain into golf’s sanctuary:

Bespoke Bobby Jones putter experience

Forum giveaways are one of the best parts of GolfWRX. It’s our chance to spread the love to our members via the newest, coolest golf equipment. Here’s an update from the winner of a bespoke Bobby Jones putter.

After being selected I was put in contact with Dave Billings, the CEO of Dogleg Right. We emailed back and forth a few times and eventually spoke on the phone to get the process started. Dave couldn’t be a nicer guy. We discussed my current gamer and if I would be using the new putter to play with or just as a piece of artwork. This was just the start. The options Dave has available are truly limitless. It began to get a little overwhelming, I have never really thought about a putter this much. Dave basically said he could make me anything I wanted (which is absolutely incredible).

It has been a couple of months since the giveaway and Dave at Dog Leg Right is starting to make some serious progress. There was a slight delay in the raw material delivery, but throughout the process Dave has been great to work with. I still cannot believe the level of service I am receiving, especially since I am not paying for it. If anyone is lucky enough to be able to afford a custom piece from Dave I would high recommend it.

Big spending on golf equipment?

Everyone here knows that there are several varieties of addiction in golf. Two of the most common: Addiction to playing the game and addiction to buying the stuff you use to play the game.

moneyball

Regarding the latter point, a GolfWRX member started a thread asking why golfers overspend on golf equipment, calling it a waste of money. Of course, the arguments on the defense are both well-formulated and entertaining.

Check out the full debate here, it’s a must-read.

Best 3-wood to hit off the deck?

Here’s a great discussion around the question, “Which 3-wood is the best to hit from the fairway?”

Join the discussion.

Post your wedge setups!

User jsunder asked WRXers to post their wedge setups, and the range of what forums readers are gaming is interesting. Everything from uniformity in brand to a hodge podge of manufacturers, to some sick custom jobs.

Check out the wedges.

Custom Scottsdale Anser

Yoder9339 showcased a nasty custom item he snagged through Morton Golf’s Ping WRX program. Yoder wrote that he was “Inspired by the other putters posted previously.” And the putter features “central TR grooves and a sight dot. Weights added to get head weight to 360 grams.”

New Cobra prototype wedge for Rickie Fowler

Rickie Fowler, no stranger to custom wedges and iron jobs, is gaming this sweet 62-degree Cobra prototype.

How was Gary Player so good?

Littleinjunp kicked off a thread with an unflattering characterization of the Black Knight. Predictably, users didn’t respond kindly initially, but an interesting discussion eventually developed.

The initial post: “5’2, 120 with one of the sloppiest swings you’ll ever see. Has there ever been a more unlikely superstar athlete in the history of sports?”

Of course, as many users pointed out, Player stands 5 feet 6 inches and weighs 160 lbs.

Gary Player The Body Issue Spotlight

Some of the more interesting takes in the discussion

LittleLefttoRight: You could say the same thing about Spieth these days. Compared to guys like Day and Rory he can barely hit it out of his shadow.

Doesn’t really matter though because the trophy goes to the last man standing even if that man has to be on his tiptoes to see over the podium. Golf is an interesting sport that way.

dlygrisse:

  • Average length driver, but accurate
  • Great fairway wood player
  • Great short to mid iron player
  • Great short game
  • Best bunker player that ever lived
  • Consistent putter
  • Mentally tough, extreme positive attitude
  • Practically invented physical fitness for golf

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.

For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • btyh: “Holy offset.”
  • Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
  • bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing

Published

on

As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.

Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.
