Rory to wear shoes designed by kids at Irish Open
Rory McIlroy’s footwear at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open this week will be loud, unique and for a great cause, according to an article on Today’s Golfer.
The Rory Foundation, Nike and the Cancer Fund for Children in Northern Ireland teamed up and held a competition for children affected by cancer to design a pair of Nike Lunar Control 3’s for McIlroy to wear during the Irish Open.
He chose the following four winners, each of which can be purchased ($210) on NIKEiD.com, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting The Rory Foundation.
Design 1: Designed by Sara Lockhart
“I read online that Rory really likes different shades of green so I combined that with some of my favorite colors,” Sara, 12, told Today’s Golfer.
The shoes have volt-colored laces, a cherry red toe box and what looks like Cookies n’ Cream speckled midsoles with an orange Sherbet midsole top line — maybe the tastiest shoe of the bunch.
Design 2: Designed by Ryan Keenan
These all-business, Ireland-inspired gray-and-green Lunars designed by Keenan, 16, have “Go Rory” written on the tongue.
Design 3: Designed by Chloe Hyndman
These purple, black and white Lunars with Safari-print have a “party in the front, business in the back” look, which is by design.
“I picked black and white to make them look professional, but then added a print to keep them fun and recent,” said Chloe, 15.
Design 4: Designed by Alex Kernaghan (13)
These polychromatic Lunar Control 3’s are the most colorful, and have an inspirational message as well.
[quote_center]”It says ‘Be You’ on my Nike shoes because that’s all you ever should be — yourself,” said Alex, 13. [/quote_center]
If you like any of the designs and want to support The Rory Foundation, you can purchase them here.

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons
In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.
For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- btyh: “Holy offset.”
- Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
- bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing
As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.
Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.
What happens when 4 #PGATOUR pros take a day off?
Luckily, the cameras were rolling.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.

I’m 55 and I’d wear all four. OK so they got something mixed up with the green thing. Thanks detective Knall, we never noticed that one.

One thing i dont get with the first ones…“I read online that Rory really likes different shades of green so I combined that with some of my favorite colors,”…i cant see a single shade of green in those. Kind of unfair combination of rorys and her favourite colors!

I actually like those more than the colors they sell now…those first ones are nice. Younger crowd will like these, I am 35 and would wear the first ones….
If Nike keeps going this route, look out for Golf Sneakerheads lol

Indeed, Nike does get it. They are marketing to the younger crowd perhaps like no ‘golf’ company has ever done before. Once again proving why they are the market leader in so many sports due to constant innovation and great marketing. I would totally sport the first two pairs. Old sh*t talking guys at my local be dammned. 😀

These colorways are fresh! The green ones especially. Time for golf to move on from the old gentry, and get younger. Nike gets it.
