Tiger Woods pops bone back in place at The Masters?

Published

on

Tiger Woods didn’t win The Masters, but he did what he needed to do.

He finished 5-under par for the week, silenced the “yip” critics by chipping and pitching nearly flawlessly, made the cut, made a brief run at the leaders on Saturday and even gave the fans some Tiger-esque moments (birdies, fist pumps, F-bombs and club throws… all mostly on hole No. 13).

Most importantly, however, he remained injury free. Well, there appeared to be no sign of lingering back pain, but there was an injury scare that left finishing the tournament in question.

On hole No. 9, and Woods’ seventh straight missed fairway of the day, his club appeared to hit a root during his approach, sending chunks of wood flying.

It’s a golfer’s worst nightmare — a hidden tree root below the ball — and for a while, it looked to be more than just a stinger (shooting pain, not Tiger’s famous knock-down shot).

He winced in pain, and seemed to be favoring his entire right side (wrist, arm and neck).

After all that’s happened over the past year — back surgeries, WD’s, chipping issues and a leave of absence to get his game back — it was going to be a tree root that derailed his Masters bid?

Nope. He continued playing and finished the round; but how?

According to a post-round interview with Bill Macatee, Woods said a “bone popped out,” but he “put it back in.”

“Oh yeah?” Macatee asked.

“Yeah,” Tiger said.

“Wow, OK,” Macatee said.

He didn’t specify which bone or joint he popped back into place, but the statement was certainly unexpected. Casually popping bones back into place during The Masters? Of course, Twitter was in disbelief.

If it’s true — if Tiger really did pop a bone, or joint, back into place and finish the tournament — that would be a feat of toughness rarely seen in major championship golf.

What do you think?

Do you believe that Tiger popped a bone back into place during The Masters?

Tiger is starting down the same weird path as Michael Jackson. He’s becoming more and more distant from normal people and a normal existence. He is starting to go down his own path in his own world that he’s creating for himself. You watch. He might get his swing back a bit but he will keep sounding stranger and stranger as the months and years go by. He will never come back to reality because his weird world will not allow him to. He will thinks he’s being normal but he will just get more and more strange as time rolls on.

It is incredibly unlikely he actually dislocated and relocated a bone in the wrist during this round, and even more unlikely that he would finish if so.

The most likely subluxed a tendon, meaning that a tendon was forced out of alignment by an unusual application of force. This can and does happen in sports, and frequently can be experienced as both audible (and often loud) pop, as well as feeling a pop in the wrist. If the tendon does not immediately return to its normal position, which is also possible, it could seem to the untrained individual that they “popped a bone back in” when they manipulate the wrist in a manner to return the subluxed tendon to the correct position. It can be incredibly painful as well.

So no… it is not likely he dislocated and relocated his wrist, and there are absolutely other medical explanations for what he experienced. Either way, it probably hurt a lot.

….and the next day he performed open heart surgery. I guess there are people who believe his crap.

As a physician….that’s total BS. He may have jammed his wrist on the shot but when you look at the anatomy and all the ligaments which encase and support your carpel bones it’s quite impossible to dislocate one let alone “pop it back in’ and continue to golf.

Always amazes me how willing Tiger is to assume people will believe anything he says. I think he is fundamentally a dishonest person, and the baloney just streams out of him. I think he lies to himself a lot too.

I don’t doubt that Tiger hurt his hand when hitting the root. What’s troubling is the pattern that Tiger has developed of physical issues that tend to crop up when his game can’t rise to the occasion. Tiger seems to find a way to have the attention focused on him when his golf game cannot. I think this is more than a physical issue, and each time another crops up he loses more and more credibility. Tiger used to be both exciting and dramatic. Now it seems he is only one of them.

*popping it back in (I’m not sure the other way would be very beneficial) lol

He only meant that he jacked up a joint and then popped it in order to get it working again. It’s not unlike a knuckle being stiff, pooping it and it moves and feels better. His comments were technically incorrect, but he should be commended on finishing the round.

Well, I can comment on this with a level of expertise. He has been treated by physios and chiros for over 20 years. It is often improperly stated by these practitioners that a patient has a “bone out of place” or that a “bone popped out”. What the doctor means is that the joint is dysfunctional due to a myriad of factors and that the joint requires an “adjustment” or “mobilization” in order to regain its proper function. It’s much easier for doctors to just say that the bone popped out and then fix it than it is to explain the entire complex of problems. It’s no different than your MD saying you have a cold and to take antibiotics. Is there more to it than that? Of course. Does the patient understand or care to know anything more? Usually, no. So what Tiger meant was “I jacked up my hand/wrist/elbow/shoulder/and/or neck and I popped it and it felt better.” He was describing what his chiros and physios have told him 1,000 times, but not everyone understands the lingo (even if it is not 100% accurate). Hope this helps.

Not to put to fine a point on it, but if your MD is prescribing antibiotics for a cold, you may want to double check that his Guatemalan medical degree is legit… just sayin’

All of you nay sayers are forgetting that this is the same Tiger Woods who won the US Open on a “BROKEN LEG!” The US Open…the biggest golf tournament in the world. Last time someone called him out on that, they were blacklisted by the networks. Poor Retief Goosen simply stated that if the leg was really “broken” that Tiger would not risk his career on such an injury. Turns out the Goose has a pair and can call a spade a spade.

Definitely not a bone. Something, but not a bone.

Is it just me or is he faking injuries to reduce his schedule down to the majors, his tournament and a few select others.

The wrist thing on Sunday buys him some time off until Chamber Bay

I love how literal people take a comment like this. Not as much this site but others are taking it a bit far. Do I think he had something in his hand jarred or “popped out of place” which needed to be “popped back in” or adjusted? Absolutely. 100%. Do I think Tiger knows for certainty that it was a bone vs. cartilage vs. ligament? Nope. In my 25 years or so of playing contact sports, I’ve jarred/dislocated/separated numerous “bones”. Half the time I’ve been able to “pop it back in”, half the time I’ve had to visit the doctor. Surgery once, physical therapy a few times. Usually just fine with rest/ice. It’s not unreasonable for it to happen.

Glutes didn’t fire in the right sequence for the proper release which caused the bone to pop back into place….

Not hard to believe that after that his wrist got a little tight to the point where it “cracked” like the cracking of your knuckles but if a bone popped out, he’d be recovering for surgery right now…

A “bone popped out,” but he “put it back in.” WTF I heard ?! Really! Next step is a self spine surgery between two holes!

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.

For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • btyh: “Holy offset.”
  • Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
  • bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing

Published

on

As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.

Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.
