I love the fact we have recent winners NOT using the latest and ‘greatest’ equipment. Waaaaay more important to get clubs that feel good to you and are matched well to you. Shaft flex, weight, flex point. Swing weight, loft. All the good stuff. Henrik Stenson won the money on both sides of the pond in 2013 with a knackered old Callaway spoon that he whackamoles 300+ and a set of Japan-only Legacy Blacks. I wonder how the equipment companies feel about the WITBs…? I mean you can pop over to the used bin and make up most of these sets. Or Classifieds if you want the TI stuff. And btW, the Tour Issue heads DO make a difference. I play a TI R1 V2 and it is far more solid than the retail head. Just sayin.

Seemingly a very nice guy. But he needs to be more colorful to have a following. Perhaps he needs to break out his dance every time he wins. Just the anticipation of that would make him more colorful…

He doesn’t need a “following,” duh

You need a following if you expect to get big endorsement deals.

Good for Hahn. Perhaps he can be known for his solid play and clutch putting in the playoff now instead of for his Gangnam Style dance on the 16th at the WM Phoenix Open.

Love the slight modification to the Vokey 58K. It is like the K grind with a touch of S grind treatment.

Love the old skool Burner with the Pershing shaft. Great to see this guy win one and get the punched ticket to da Mahztaz, or as my idol Seve would say, “Agoosta.” Taking pictures and signing autos before the playoff, awesome!! Blessings to James’ family and little girl on the way. Well done!

I don’t know James, but I spent the better part of a day with his group at the U.S. Open qualifier in Columbus last year.
He’s a very cool, very solid, very focused guy. I could not be happier, for this win. There were so many great stories that could have come out of this day: Vijay’s 52nd birthday; Dustin Johnson’s comeback; a Sergio win…
But for me, the James Hahn was as good as any of those.
Btw; like so many tour players these days, up close James looks like an athlete. Like he could have played guard on the Cal basketball team or safety on the Golden Bears’ football team. He’s still the only guy I’ve ever seen use a compass on the golf course.

Why was he using a compass?
Josh
Feb 23, 2015 at 12:13 pm
Probably to plot the directions of the holes. Doglegs change direction and would have one bearing for the tee shot and another for the approach. If you knew the wind was blowing north-northeast and the hole goes west-southwest, you’d know it’s not a true crosswind and would hurt a tiny bit.

I really wish I knew why he pulled out a compass. It was breezy, and he was on the tee of a short Par 4 (he hit hybrid) at Scioto where the routing turned into the wind.
It really stumped me at the time partucularly because I hadn’t realized that the USGA had changed its Decisions to allow the use of compasses.

Agreed. No nonsense. Got it done. Didn’t realise he is in his 30s… He’s served his apprenticeship. Now for the big time.
