Greater Gwinnett Championship Photos

Published

on

GolfWRX is live from the Champion Tour’s Greater Gwinnett Championship at TPC Sugarloaf in Duluth, Ga. The 7,131-yard, par-72 Greg Norman design also hosted the inaugural Champions Tour event in 2013.

This year at the Masters, six players over 50 years old made the cut. Five of them are in the field at the Greater Gwinnett Championship, including Miguel Angel Jiminez (who finished fourth at the Masters), Bernhard Langer (T-8), Fred Couples (T-20), Vijay Singh (T-37) , Sandy Lyle (T-44) and Larry Mize (51st). Of the six, only Vijay Singh will not make the 163-mile drive from Augusta to Duluth for this week’s event.

Bernhard Langer comes off the top-10 finish at Augusta last week in good form to defend his Greater Gwinnett title, where he won by three strokes in last year’s event over Tom Pernice Jr. and Tom Lehman. Miguel Angel Jiminez, currently ranked No. 32 in the Official World Golf Rankings, will make his Champions Tour debut this week.

Other notables in the field this week are Ben Crenshaw, Mark O’Meara, Colin Montgomerie, Corey Pavin, Hale Irwin, Kenny Perry and Rocco Mediate.

Check out our photos from TPC Sugarloaf.

Thank you, Thank you!! I love looking at Champions tour bags! So interesting. Without big endorsement deals you get to see guys who get what works and they stick with it. Langer wins with his half Adams half Hogan iron set-up. Or is it Rocco with the funky wedges and skully woods? I dunno but please keep it up WRX.

Interesting photos from the 2020 Safeway Open

Published

on

After a long three-day offseason, the PGA Tour is finally back to kick off the 20-21 campaign. GolfWRX photographer is on-site and snapped some interesting pics most notably the new Titleist TSi metal woods.

Let’s see what got!

Slowly but surely new Cleveland/Srixon product infiltrates the tour staff. Word is, the new Srixon irons and Cleveland wedges have had rave reviews across the board and those that have had times to test have put them in quickly.

Charl Schwartzel becomes the newest P Series convert. The former Masters champion who has a reputation for being extremely meticulous swapped out his custom Miuras for much talked about P7MB.

Graham DaLaet is back! The pure ball striking Canadian is back from an injury plagued last few years. Let’s hope he stays healthy. Guy is a fan favorite and can flat-out play.

Charley Hoffman is leaving nothing to chance.

Kizzire and Stallings gaming the TSi3 right outta the gate. Testing only started a couple of weeks ago but thus far the feedback has been it’s hot as hell and apparently the fairways are in some cases too hot.

Chappell rocking a custom Vessel/True Spec bag

Joe Kwok!!!

An in-hand look at the new Project X HZRDUS RDX Smoke shaft (which Ryan Barath wrote about here)

…and Graphite Design Tour AD HD 6 shafts (covered here)

Project X LS, IO, and U shafts spotted as well. We covered the LS here.

Photos from the 2020 Safeway Open

Published

on

GolfWRX is live from Napa Valley at the Silverado Resort and Spa for the Safeway Open.

The par-72, 7,166-yard track saw Cameron Champ emerge victorious in the most recent contesting. This year, Phil Mickelson, Jordan Spieth, and Sergio Garcia are all teeing it up, as well as Matt Kuchar, Kevin Streelman, and Erik van Rooyen, to name a few in the 144-man field.

A tune-up event for the U.S. Open for the first (and almost certainly last) time in its history, the Safeway Open—first event of the 2020-2021 PGA Tour season—is an interesting one from an equipment standpoint. Not only are the new Titleist woods seeding (as well as other equipment, potentially) but players looking for an edge will be motivated to change up their bags ahead of the 2020-2021 campaign, as will 2021 equipment free agents and players who could potentially be facing sponsorship switches.
