Adam Scott makes surprise mid-event iron switch, with FedExCup Playoff berth on the line
The ongoing Adam Scott iron saga just got even more dramatic.
Going into the 2023 Wyndham Championship, Scott was sitting at No. 81 in the FedExCup Playoff standings. As reported, Scott needed at least a T9 finish for a chance to break into the top-70 for a FedExCup Playoff berth.
In preparation for the week, GolfWRX.com spotted Scott testing a number of different iron models from various brands on Wednesday. On Thursday, Scott officially switched out of his former Miura AS-1 custom blades, and into a full set of Titleist 620 CB irons.
With the new irons, Scott fired a first round 65 (5-under) to put himself exactly where he needed to be. In his second-and-third rounds, however, Scott shot 71-69, forcing him into a position where he’d need to go low on Sunday for a chance at advancing.
Ahead of his final round, with a spot in the playoffs on the line, Scott made a shocking iron switch, replacing the Titleist 620 CB mid/short irons with Miura’s KM-700 model (6-9 iron).

Here’s how Miura describes the KM-700 designs: “The innovative toe-cut grind works in concert with the hosel/heel to optimize the center of gravity position, effectively producing a larger ‘sweet spot.’ The toe-cut grind is also visible on the sole. It delivers a stable head, optimized impact loft, and unparalleled turf interaction all while promoting a return to square at impact.”
As of the time this article was published, Scott sits at 7-under on the day, 12-under for the event, in T5 with two holes to play. (Keep in mind that Scott will have to hold off the players behind him still on course.)
