It was the 32-year-old’s first win on the Women’s PGA Tour of Australasia.
“I always thought in my head if I ever got the opportunity to actually win a golf tournament and the girls happen to come running out on the green, I was going to stand there and take it. I wasn’t going to run away,” Gill said.
“If you get yourself in that position, you just take it. It was so special.”
The victory for Gill led to a debate on whether or not transgender athletes should be competing in women’s sports.
Hailey was clear that she didn’t want the post to be used to spread any type of hate or discrimination.
I don’t want this thread to be used to spread any kind of hate. At the end of the day we can disagree with each other, but remember we’re all human beings. Please be respectful of each other and of transgender people.

Most people commenting on Ostrom’s tweet believe there should be a separate category for transgender golfers.
Dudes should not compete against women, i don’t care what you think you are, you were born with a male body that is stronger and equipped with things women are not… I’m sorry but this is wrong!

Zero hate towards Breanna. However, this is terribly unfair to biological women. They deserve a level playing field.
— Frank (@Frankie_Junior) April 3, 2023
Only answer is to create separate events. Men and woman are biologically different, that’s just a fact. It’s not fair to the women who have worked their entire lives to compete at the highest level. This is our future if changes aren’t made

However, there were a few responses that believed there was nothing wrong with Gill competing in the event.
Let’s stir up some more hate, just what the world needs! I played a pro event with a trans girl, nicest person you could ever meet and been to hell and back. No sporting advantage whatever, I was out driving her by 50 yards consistently. Ask Laura Davies her opinion! Hate 4 likes

There were also some responses that were down the middle.
This is such a tough issue because I *very strongly* believe there needs to be a competitive place for everyone in the sports.
But even if this works in limited sample sizes, at scale I don't think it can be fair/equitable. Just so tough, haven't seen a good answer yet.

One Twitter user pointed to the fact that the Tour turned off comments on the tweet and that there were a very small number of likes on the post as opposed to views.
