What’s the best punch out club? – GolfWRXers discuss

In our forums, our members have been discussing punch out options. WRXer ‘Seattlegolfnut’ is considering his best club when trapped in the trees and says:

“I have an open spot in my bag and can add another club. I think a punch out club could make the game a little more enjoyable for me and a little easier than trying to perfect the choke down forward press setup with a 4 iron.”

John76: “I use my 17 degree 5 wood. Normal grip, ball more to the center with less backswing. Works pretty well.”
BallerNate: “I’ve always used my 3-iron, and now 4-iron as my punch out club and use a putter grip choked down. It’s a shot I’ve had to use more often than I’d like, and I am pretty confident in it. For me personally, I wouldn’t want to carry an extra club just for punch out situations, and I err on the side of carrying less clubs vs more.”
MountainKing: “Take the 4 or 5 iron and play it almost like a chip shot. The ball will fly pretty far off of either club with minimal effort.”
Habitual Flipper: “I use my driver often for this task. Takes a variable out of the equation as I know it’ll never go above knee height.”

Spotted: Titleist GTS USWO headcovers

GolfWRX Tour Photographer Greg Moore was at Riviera Country Club this last week in Los Angeles for the U.S. Women’s Open. While browsing the photos, I spotted a recent major trend in headcovers. That is, the Titleist GTS headcover line expands the majors theme.

Seen on the bag of Natalia Guseva were the red, white, and blue Titleist GTS covers. This is the third time we have seen limited-edition Titleist major covers, the others being at the Masters and the PGA Championship. But with the launch of the GTS line back at the Texas Children’s Houston Open in March, this is the first time we have seen Titleist come out with major themed head covers for the season (driver headcovers through hybrids).

Check out some photos below.

At the Masters, we saw the familiar Masters green, white, and yellow. While the PGA Championship design was colors synonymous with the Philadelphia Eagles NFL team. This shows the season major drops continue full steam ahead for major OEMs. New opportunities for each major for designs and themes, and who knows, maybe a lucky spark for a player and a major championship for their resume. It gets the wheels turning for what major theme headcover you would keep on your bag for the whole season!
