What GolfWRXers are saying about the best irons for a long-hitting high handicapper

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing irons for long-hitting high handicap golfers. WRXer ‘bradleybusch92’ reaches out to fellow members, saying:

“Do you guys have any recommendations for a guy who shoots a 105 with blades but feels like if he could get some forgiveness on his mishits drop that to an easy 98? I’m not very good at golf, but I hit the ball further than the average old guy who plays GI irons. This is a tough spot to be in with the current market. Haha. Thanks in advance.”

And our members have been putting forward their suggestions in our forums.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • krawchukery: “Taylormade P790 or p760 are great options. Work with a fitter to have them gapped and adjusted appropriately for the distance you are looking for with your 7 iron.”
  • RobS14526: “Ping has irons available with retro spec lofts.”
  • Scottbox: “I’d def hit the Pings. Try all the models. I’m a 9 and hit the G410, and I was very pleasantly surprised– not too big, but very forgiving, and a million loft and shaft options. Def get fitted though.”
  • FargoRC: “JPX forged or Ping i210 would be a good place to start in my opinion. Having played both, I would lean more to the i210 based on what you are looking for.”

At 80 years old I’d like to try some newer irons with sr. Shafts but can’t see paying 800 bucks for them ! Any ideas ?

Spotted: Titleist GTS USWO headcovers

Published

on

GolfWRX Tour Photographer Greg Moore was at Riviera Country Club this last week in Los Angeles for the U.S. Women’s Open. While browsing the photos, I spotted a recent major trend in headcovers. That is, the Titleist GTS headcover line expands the majors theme.

Seen on the bag of Natalia Guseva were the red, white, and blue Titleist GTS covers. This is the third time we have seen limited-edition Titleist major covers, the others being at the Masters and the PGA Championship. But with the launch of the GTS line back at the Texas Children’s Houston Open in March, this is the first time we have seen Titleist come out with major themed head covers for the season (driver headcovers through hybrids).

Check out some photos below.

At the Masters, we saw the familiar Masters green, white, and yellow. While the PGA Championship design was colors synonymous with the Philadelphia Eagles NFL team. This shows the season major drops continue full steam ahead for major OEMs. New opportunities for each major for designs and themes, and who knows, maybe a lucky spark for a player and a major championship for their resume. It gets the wheels turning for what major theme headcover you would keep on your bag for the whole season!
