Today from the Forums: “Practicing/Playing with two different sets of irons?”

Published

on

Today from the Forums we take a look at an interesting thread created by WRXer ‘jjcpa’ who is currently practicing with two different sets of irons to ensure any weaknesses are down to him and not the clubs. Jjcpa asks fellow members what they think of his approach and WRXers have been sharing their thoughts in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • PowerCobra98: “I’ve always got 2 sets of irons at any given time, and I routinely play and practice with both. Still searching for the perfect set for me (they don’t exist!).”
  • jwadds19: “I have multiple sets and interchange them somewhat regularly, but it’s just because I personally like mixing it up. I just think its fun using different clubs. They are similar make-ups, so it isn’t too big of a deal from a playability standpoint. I’m also not a tour pro, but strike it alright, so hitting any of my sets doesn’t change much. Might look to change up my z785 scoring irons for some z forged soon though!”
  • shankman2000: “I regularly flip between two sets of irons, different brands but same shafts and so I feel happy to do so. Wedges same in both bags. If it is logistically more convenient to have multiple sets in different places (travel etc.) that can match I don’t see an issue. Maybe have one set as blades/players irons and one that is more forgiving to work on strike?”
  • bvanlieu: “Primary set and a vacation/fun set. My vacation irons are slightly harder to hit Miura CB’s vs my blended P770/790 primary set. If I had to game the Miuras I could, one reason I get them vs MB’s for a holiday set 🙂 Some days I just want to go out and play for the sake of playing, and playing blades, my old pings (rarely come out) or the Miuras fit that bill nicely.”
  • Tim Sherwood: “I have a set for practice and a set for play purely because I can only ever practice from mats, so I don’t want the wear and tear on my good set. Both sets have similar head profiles and shaft weights.”
