Forum Thread of the Day: “Your best and worst golf purchases of 2019?”
Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from Other Barry who asks WRXers what their best and worst purchases of 2019 were. While clubs ruled the best purchase category for most members, Other Barry highlighted New Balance’s Striker shoes as his best buy. Our members discuss the highs and lows of their 2019 in the market.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- texcrom: “Best purchase – Scotty Cameron T22 Newport – I’m gaming it, making a ton of putts, and as importantly my misses are lagged close for easy tap ins. Spent the last ten years looking for my putting to return, and finally found it. Worst purchase – Titleist T100’s – Because it led to the trade of my 718 AP2’s which I had gamed for two years. Now thru a process of multiple transactions, I have a set of Mizuno MP20 MMC’s that I don’t believe are keepers and a set of P790’s which I have played for 27 holes. Hit 620 CB’s and may make this move next.”
- doctormizuno: “Can I have a tie for first. Cobra F9 Driver. Excellent distance. Hit 13 of 14 fairways today. Bettinardi BB1 putter. Worst: Callaway Rogue 3 wood. I just couldn’t get it to work for me.”
- MitchellGolfing: “Best – Mizuno MP-H4 irons. They aren’t going anywhere until the faces are worn smooth. Worst-TaylorMade M1 440. In the right player’s hands, I’m sure it’s a beast, I just was not consistent enough with it.”
- ian-500: “Best: Taylormade Original One mini driver. Worst: Every other driver I’ve bought this year.”
- Beachbum08247: “Best has been my p790 irons. Love the feel and performance. They have really been a step up over my old Callaway irons from last season. Worst was the Srixon u65 driving iron I started the season with. Got no feedback from contact and the performance was poor. Sold that thing real quick.”

What’s the perfect mini-driver/shaft combo? – GolfWRXers discuss
In our forums, our members have been discussing Mini-Drivers and accompanying shafts. WRXer ‘JamesFisher1990’ is about to purchase a BRNR Mini and is torn on what shaft weight to use, and our members have been sharing their thoughts and set ups in our forum.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- PARETO: “New BRNR at 13.5. Took it over to TXG (Club Champ but TXG will always rule) in Calgary for a fit. Took the head down to 12, stuck in a Graphite Design AD at 3 wood length and 60g. Presto- numbers that rivaled my G430Max but with waaaaay tighter dispersion. Win.”
- driveandputtmachine: “Still playing a MIni 300. The head was only 208, so I ordered a heavier weight and play it at 3 wood length. I am playing a Ventus Red 70. I play 70 grams in my fairways. I use it mainly to hit draws off the tee. When I combine me, a driver, and trying to hit a draw it does not work out well most of the time. So the MIni is for that. As an aside, I have not hit the newest BRNR, but the previous model wasn’t great off the deck. The 300 Mini is very good off the deck.”
- JAM01: “Ok, just put the BRNR in the bag along side a QI10 max and a QI10 3 wood. A load of top end redundancy. But, I have several holes at my two home courses where the flight and accuracy of the mini driver helps immensely. Mine is stock Proforce 65 at 13.5, I could see a heavier shaft, but to normal flex, as a nice alternative.”
