Forum Thread of the Day: “Justin Rose thinks four majors in four months is bad for golf. Do you agree?”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from MMB1500 who highlighted comments made this week from Justin Rose who believes that the new schedule which sees four majors in four months is “too condensed” and not good for golf. Our members have been sharing their thoughts on the matter, with plenty of members both supporting and rejecting Rose’s claim.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • Z1ggy16: “Kind of agree. Once the Open is over this year, there’s really not much else to “look forward to” as far as exciting tournaments go, for me anyway.”
  • CDLgolf: “I agree with Justin, hard to believe the major season will be done after this weekend. It also seems to me that the new schedule is making the top name players play less. Taking three weeks off and only playing in the majors. I’m sure this schedule makes the most money for the tour, and they’ll be done before football starts, which is what they want.”
  • bspn: “I always thought the old schedule was too compressed around this time of year with The Open > WGC > PGA all within the space of 3 weeks and then right on into the FedEx Cup playoffs. This year has felt much better paced to me, albeit with some of the big names skipping regular events they would otherwise play in order to get enough rest between majors. The other benefit of the new schedule is they’ve got rid of that awkward break right in the middle of the FedEx Cup.”
  • Big Ben: “The PGA being the last Major has always felt like a dud. I like the new format. The Open Championship this year is far more exciting.”

They should get rid of the FedEx Cup and the silly playoff format. It’s meaningless and it’s the very thing that gets in the way of everything else on Tour, actually, which made this schedule feel condensed and busy. Throw that in with the Olympics next year and Ryder Cup all getting in the way, there is too much intensity in golf that golf can’t actually handle for the players to be consistently strong.

i could care less about the fed ex cup…but it gives us 4 tournaments end of season where all the top players play at once….not sure why golf fans would want to get rid of these tournaments. yes, seeing the fedex cup standings in feb is annoying, and yes claiming it decides the season champion is dumb… but its usually 4 good quality tournaments and beats some random tournament that top players skip.

Disagree completely. I think it has been the most enjoyable golf season so far because the majors are happening every month. Let’s be real, the Players Champiohship IS a major. So, you have majors every month starting in March and. Ending with the playoffs 6 months later in August/September..

Then you have the wrap around season in place of the meaningless SKINS games they used to have and you have year round MEANINGFUL golf.

    Great job PGA Tuor.

    I agree with Rose 100%.
On July 21st, the major golf championship season will be over.
    And why?
So they can start the stupid FedEx Cup in August.
And then they won’t have to go head to head with football.
And then they’ll get bigger TV ratings.
And then everyone involved will make more money.

What’s the perfect mini-driver/shaft combo? – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Mini-Drivers and accompanying shafts. WRXer ‘JamesFisher1990’ is about to purchase a BRNR Mini and is torn on what shaft weight to use, and our members have been sharing their thoughts and set ups in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • PARETO: “New BRNR at 13.5. Took it over to TXG (Club Champ but TXG will always rule) in Calgary for a fit. Took the head down to 12, stuck in a Graphite Design AD at 3 wood length and 60g. Presto- numbers that rivaled my G430Max but with waaaaay tighter dispersion. Win.”
  • driveandputtmachine: “Still playing a MIni 300.  The head was only 208, so I ordered a heavier weight and play it at 3 wood length.  I am playing a Ventus Red 70.   I play 70 grams in my fairways.  I use it mainly to hit draws off the tee.  When I combine me, a driver, and trying to hit a draw it does not work out well most of the time.  So the MIni is for that. As an aside, I have not hit the newest BRNR, but the previous model wasn’t great off the deck.  The 300 Mini is very good off the deck.”
  • JAM01: “Ok, just put the BRNR in the bag along side a QI10 max and a QI10 3 wood. A load of top end redundancy. But, I have several holes at my two home courses where the flight and accuracy of the mini driver helps immensely. Mine is stock Proforce 65 at 13.5, I could see a heavier shaft, but to normal flex, as a nice alternative.”

Why Ludvig Aberg is my new favorite player – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing one of the new sensations in the world of golf – Ludvig Aberg. The 24-year-old finished solo second at the Masters a couple of weeks ago, and gained many plaudits, including from several WRXers.

One member, RoyalMustang, took to the forums to explain why Aberg is now their favorite player, saying:

“I loved the way the Ludvig was out there, having a great time, not taking himself or the situation too seriously. Even after the double at 11, he was like “well, that’s golf!” Loose and relaxed: that’s the way to play. It’s obvious he loves what he’s doing, he loves the big moments, and he loves being a part of it all.

Arnold Palmer was viewed that way. Just like Brooks Robinson was forever viewed as not just a great baseball player, but a great human being and friend to Baltimore.”

And our members have been reacting and sharing their positive takes on the young Swede.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • redfirebird08: “Ludvig has a great attitude, a great smile, and a great golf swing.”
  • otto6457: “I’m very lucky to have talked with Ludde several times at the Rawls Course at Texas Tech.  He’s a truly nice guy and very friendly.  Always said hello when we passed each other in the club house and was always smiling. Watching him hit balls on the range was a joy.  He has “that sound” and trajectory to die for.  There were many times he was out on the range in 30+ mph winds just hitting the most beautiful shots that just seemed to ignore the wind.  World class ball striker. And yes……..I am a fan boy.”
  • konklifer: “I like him. In an era of endless waggles and laboring, his swing and pace of play are a joy to watch.
