Forum Thread of the Day: “Driver thoughts – Callaway Epic Flash vs Cobra F9”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from leftycabe who created the topic pitting Callaway’s Epic Flash driver against Cobra’s F9 driver. Leftycabe asks for details of fellow GolfWRX members experience with both clubs, and the thread contains some interesting feedback on both new drivers.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • golfinfl: “I looked at both and went with the F9.  I have played one Cobra driver in the past (Bio Cell pro) and have played Callaway the past couple of years (Epic standard and then Rogue and Rogue Sub Zero last year).  The Callaway Sub Zeros look good to me (which is really important to me) but they are definitely more fade biased, at least for my swing.  I also have issues with swing weighting because I like to play my driver a little shorter than standard and Callaway really doesn’t do much with regard to swing weight.  The things I liked about the Cobra were the look at the top, the sound which is phenomenal (really best of any driver in recent memory), the ball speed, and their ability to build it exactly like I wanted.”
  • Mob: “I was impressed with the performance of both drivers.  I could see myself playing either of these based on initial testing. I was curious to see if there would be a clear winner, and there was not.  I need to get them both on the course a few times before I would make any decision.  I would tell anybody if they were struggling between the two, that they can’t go wrong with either driver based on initial testing.  If a muted, solid thwack at impact is important to you, then the F9 would clearly be the way to go.”
  • Cwing: “I hit both at a recent demo day. Both are excellent, but I preferred the 3-5 yd fade the Epic Flash SZ was giving me. That stated, both are fantastic.”
  • noaces06: “I hit them both in my search last week – compared as close to ‘apples to apples’ with shafts as possible to make it as fair as possible.  (Disclosure: I’ve been a Callaway woods guy for a LONG time). In the end, the F9 was hands down, the better driver (For Me).  Best combination vs best combination, the F9 was 15 yards longer – I just couldn’t get the spin down on the Flash to save my life, and it was definitely costing me yards.  Even switching to the SZ version, it was still spinning like a top.  Your mileage may vary – but the sound of the F9 is perfect, and it’s solid.  Good contact with the F9 felt solid – something I was missing from my Rogue and the Flash.”
