“Return of the Roar”: ESPN to release film documenting Tiger Woods’ 2018 comeback season
The remarkable comeback year of Tiger Woods is set to be showcased in a prime-time film, which will air on ESPN on Sunday, December 30.
The film, titled “Return of the Roar,” promises to give us an inside look into the incredible comeback of Tiger Woods, beginning with his return to action from spinal fusion surgery last December, right up to his improbable victory at the Tour Championship in September.
Here’s a look at the trailer, which will leave you counting down the days until the film’s release.

ESPN has stated that the broadcaster interviewed over 60 PGA Tour professionals, along with Woods himself, and Woods’ caddie Joe La Cava, to bring depth and context to one of sports greatest ever comebacks.
In its press release, ESPN commented on what exactly you can expect to see in “Return of the Roar”
“With new, never-before-seen content, including multiple interviews with Woods, viewers will get behind-the-scenes access to PGA TOUR events central to Woods’ return, including the Valspar Championship and the Tour Championship, featuring stylized off-speed cameras and inside-the-ropes viewpoints.
“The film also will touch upon Woods’ growing role as a leader and mentor on the PGA Tour, highlighting his role as captain’s assistant at the 2017 Presidents Cup and the announcement made in March that he will captain the U.S. Team at the 2019 Presidents Cup in Australia.”
“Return of the Roar” airs on ESPN at 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, which happens to be Woods’ 43rd birthday.

It wasn’t just one win or any win. Yes, it wasn’t a major. However, the season ending Tour Championship requires making it through the season and finishing top 30. He played more tournaments this season than any other recent year the last decade. He was one Rose missed putt from winning the FedEx cup too. 42 with a fused back and a pain killer addiction.

I suppose Woods will be coming back forever but, just in case, please wake me up if he arrives.

Too soon. Winning a tournament isn’t exactly a stunning comeback. Lots of golfers have missed out on winning for a few years, had injuries, substance abuse or other personal challenges, and then come back to win. When he wins a major it’s time for a movie.

I completely agree. Yes, he had a good year, but it was 1 win. Let’s wait and see how he does over the next 1-2 years before we start calling this one of the greatest comebacks in sports history. Gosh, there is so much hyperbole in sports that it just ruins it. It’s way too soon for a documentary. He just finished 17/18 in the Hero World Challenge.
