My favorite club ever is worth 97 cents…

taylormade-tpa-v

Depreciating more rapidly than your Mercedes Benz C300, golf equipment isn’t know for maintaining its value—unless of course you’re talking about Circle T Camerons. We’ve had discussions in the past about the Titleist PTs of the world: Outdated clubs that golfers cling to out of a both a contentedness with performance and sentimental attachments. Along these lines, user Jslane57 writes of the results of his PGA Value Guide mining: “My whole bag was about $100.00 and the club I built it all around (a mid 1980’s TaylorMade TPA V) was worth a whole ninety seven cents!”

Anyone have similar experiences? Attached to club you could buy with the change in your dashboard console? See the thread.

What will be in Tiger’s bag when he wins his next major?

tiger-woods-scotty-cameron

Premise No. 1 in this fire-takes-aplenty thread: Tiger Woods will win another major championship. And the second premise: No. 15 will come some time in relatively short order. And whether you agree with either premise, you’ve got to check out this thread. And count the “Tiger’s Nike irons were forged by Miura” conspiracy theorists while you’re at it.

See the thread.

What putter did you using during your best putting stretch?

fjputter

Simple question equals great thread in this one: During your best putting stretch, which putter were you using? And as a follow-up, I’d add: Why the heck did you switch to a different flatstick?

Check out the thread.

Most overrated course in the major rotation?

Whistling Straits 2

Not to throw shade, but some recurrent major venues are, let’s say, unduly lathered with the fluffy foam of unconditional positive regard. JD3, who begs the question in this thread, offers up Whistling Straits as a venue unworthy of widespread acclaim.

Want to defend Pete Dye’s Sheboygan effort? What venues are undeservedly “major”? Join the discussion.

From the Classifieds…

Here’s one particular mouthful:  “Mannkrafted Notched Brassie, 34″, 355 grams, face-balanced, head cover, Hot Stix 2014 putter of the month.” User rkochies 4580 is offering this superb weapon from custom, handcrafted putter maker, Mannkrafted for sale.

Tiger is the greatest player ever. I love him. I expect him to win by 20+ shots this week. He will win 40+ majors before he is done.

Tiger’s bag will contain Titleist irons – MB’s to be exact (3-9) and a TMB 2 iron. See Adam Scott’s bag and just put Tiger’s name on it…except for the putter. I think he sticks with the Nike putter.

New clubs, new golf balls….one of the best parts of playing golf….no matter what you spend on your requirement it is beyond worth it….your only on this earth so long and that feeling you get teeing up a new Pro V1 or taking the stickers of the shaft of that new M1 driver…all moments we who love golf can count as special moments in life….that first, second or third hole in one is right up there with them…

Most forgiving players irons? – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing players irons. WRXer ‘NorthTXGolf’ is on the hunt for some new irons but is putting a priority on forgiveness, and has reached out to fellow members who have been sharing their thoughts and advice on the subject in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • Sam217: “i230 has got to be one of the most forgiving players irons available. Cobra King Tour another. Don’t sleep on the New Level 480 DB coming out soon.”
  • RangeBaller: “ZX5/ZX7 and i230 should definitely be in your testing pool.”
  • YAMS49: “Another I210 homie here… Very highly recommended if you want/need spin and a consistent yardage.”
  • golf-RN: “I second the Cobra King Tour irons. I am not the greatest ballstriker by any stretch of the imagination and I find the King Tours very forgiving. Toe strikes might lose 5 or 6 yards with no directional loss. You definitely feel the miss though lol but mishits from the center aren’t punished too hard regarding distance.”

What’s the perfect mini-driver/shaft combo? – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Mini-Drivers and accompanying shafts. WRXer ‘JamesFisher1990’ is about to purchase a BRNR Mini and is torn on what shaft weight to use, and our members have been sharing their thoughts and set ups in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • PARETO: “New BRNR at 13.5. Took it over to TXG (Club Champ but TXG will always rule) in Calgary for a fit. Took the head down to 12, stuck in a Graphite Design AD at 3 wood length and 60g. Presto- numbers that rivaled my G430Max but with waaaaay tighter dispersion. Win.”
  • driveandputtmachine: “Still playing a MIni 300.  The head was only 208, so I ordered a heavier weight and play it at 3 wood length.  I am playing a Ventus Red 70.   I play 70 grams in my fairways.  I use it mainly to hit draws off the tee.  When I combine me, a driver, and trying to hit a draw it does not work out well most of the time.  So the MIni is for that. As an aside, I have not hit the newest BRNR, but the previous model wasn’t great off the deck.  The 300 Mini is very good off the deck.”
  • JAM01: “Ok, just put the BRNR in the bag along side a QI10 max and a QI10 3 wood. A load of top end redundancy. But, I have several holes at my two home courses where the flight and accuracy of the mini driver helps immensely. Mine is stock Proforce 65 at 13.5, I could see a heavier shaft, but to normal flex, as a nice alternative.”

Why Ludvig Aberg is my new favorite player – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing one of the new sensations in the world of golf – Ludvig Aberg. The 24-year-old finished solo second at the Masters a couple of weeks ago, and gained many plaudits, including from several WRXers.

One member, RoyalMustang, took to the forums to explain why Aberg is now their favorite player, saying:

“I loved the way the Ludvig was out there, having a great time, not taking himself or the situation too seriously. Even after the double at 11, he was like “well, that’s golf!” Loose and relaxed: that’s the way to play. It’s obvious he loves what he’s doing, he loves the big moments, and he loves being a part of it all.

Arnold Palmer was viewed that way. Just like Brooks Robinson was forever viewed as not just a great baseball player, but a great human being and friend to Baltimore.”

And our members have been reacting and sharing their positive takes on the young Swede.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • redfirebird08: “Ludvig has a great attitude, a great smile, and a great golf swing.”
  • otto6457: “I’m very lucky to have talked with Ludde several times at the Rawls Course at Texas Tech.  He’s a truly nice guy and very friendly.  Always said hello when we passed each other in the club house and was always smiling. Watching him hit balls on the range was a joy.  He has “that sound” and trajectory to die for.  There were many times he was out on the range in 30+ mph winds just hitting the most beautiful shots that just seemed to ignore the wind.  World class ball striker. And yes……..I am a fan boy.”
  • konklifer: “I like him. In an era of endless waggles and laboring, his swing and pace of play are a joy to watch.
