Tour Mash: Scott validates his new putting stroke, Lexi dominates in Thailand
Over the last 15 years, golf fans and the media have waited for Adam Scott and Sergio Garcia to establish themselves as great ones. Scott won a major in 2013 at Augusta National, but Sergio’s best is a victory at The Players Championship. This weekend, both took a run at the Honda Classic. They separated themselves from the field on Saturday, and in the end Scott outlasted Garcia by one stroke.

For Scott, his 12th PGA Tour win was vindication for the assertion that the long putter masked his weak putting.
“It just reassures me, I’m on the right track with the things I’m doing on the greens obviously and I’m just going to try and get better every week,” Scott said. “And I think it’s in a great spot at the moment. If I can get better and better, then I like what’s to come.”
For Garcia, the runner-up finish was an affirmation that his game has matured with age and belief in the self.
“It’s just confidence,” Garcia said. “It’s feeling comfortable with what you’re doing and feeling comfortable with feeling fluid when you do the swing, and it’s just as simple as that.”
Louis Back In Form At Handa Perth International
Louis Oosthuizen nearly won a green jacket at the 2012 Masters, losing in a playoff to Bubba Watson. His play this week at Perth suggests that he will take another run at the fabled Georgia tournament next month.
Oosthuizen was in control of all facets of his game as he edged Alex Levy by one stroke at the Perth International. Oosthuizen’s final-hole bogey tightened the margin of victory, but did nothing to suggest that he wasn’t the man to beat, once he wrested the lead from American Peter Uihlein in Round 3. Uihlein ended up tied for fourth, three strokes back. He had the wee, par-three 12th to thank for his descent, playing it in 4-over par on the weekend.
Thompson Victorious At Honda LPGA Thailand
Lexi Thompson captured a win for Old Glory when she withstood an outburst from In Gee Chun early Sunday to win by six strokes. Her overnight lead was reduced from four to one when Chun birdied her first three holes of Round 4, but Thompson never wavered. Two birdies on the front, followed by an eagle on No. 10, restored her advantage and she closed the door with one last birdie on No. 15. Meanwhile, Chun’s maddening day (only five pars over 18 holes) ended with a bogey-double-birdie finish for solo second.
Avianca Colombia Open Goes To Justin Kueper
Although the Colombia Open wasn’t over after three rounds, it might have seemed that way. Justin Kueper’s 21-under-par score through Saturday evening overshadowed the rest of the field, even Ken Looper’s sublime 60 in Round 2.
When Kueper birdied two of his first three on Sunday, the deed was done and only the final margin of victory (five strokes over Chile’s Guillermo Pereira) left to imagination. Although Kueper let his guard down with three, final-nine bogeys on Sunday, he made a pair of birdies to preserve his runaway triumph.
Shin Shines At Euro Tour’s RACV Ladies Masters
Jiyai Shin kept it just out of reach for everyone else all week, including wunderkind Brooke Henderson. Shin opened with 68 on Thursday, one shot back of the lead. After she took over the lead on Saturday and never relinquished it.
Three strokes back of the two-time British Open champion was Holly Clyburn of England. Tied for third was Denmark’s Nicole Broch Larsen, who may have played the best golf of the week, with rounds of 67, 68 and 69. Only a 78 in Round 3 kept her from a better chance at victory.
Jason Bohn suffers a heart attack
Jason Bohn suffered a heart attack after Round 2 of the Honda Classic. Initially thought to be minor, the revelation of a 99 percent blockage in the left anterior descending artery elevated the diagnosis to major and lucky to be alive.
Chamblee continues to rip Tiger
Why is Brandel Chamblee such an attention … hound? A month ago, dude claims he has key to distance in golf swing — just lift your front heel. Hmmm, that’s news!
Next, amigo says Rory is overdoing it in gym and it will hurt his game. This week, mon ami goes after Tiger, saying he looks like a put-back-together, 40-year-old man.
He’s starting to remind me of someone.
