Monday Tour Mash: DJ completes the comback, Inbee edges Ko
Rory, Indy, Happy, Rory
Can we get an infrared of Rory’s club launch sequence? Infrareds of shots are so… Friday.
Tossing clubs into El Charco de Doral is trend-setting.
As is landing (crashing) a plane on a fairway.
And throwing down in a hospital with an ex-game show host in a rematch of “The Thrilla In Vanilla.”
And speaking of Rory, please tell me that he did not put a water-logged three iron back in his bag, after Aquaman did him the favor of returning it.
What Happened To Matching Birdies?
Saturday brought us matching aces from Dustin Johnson…
And J.B. Holmes.
Anticipating a dramatic birdie battle on Sunday between two of the PGA Tour’s longest hitters entering their prime, what we instead got was Holmes struggling and Johnson showing enviable consistency.
Holmes had a 5-stroke lead on Saturday night, but five wouldn’t hold up. For Johnson, the best part of the win was not the comeback aspect.
Related: See the clubs Dustin Johnson used to win.
[quote_box_center]”First as a dad, definitely, is the most special (smiling),” Johnson said. “You know, Paulina and Tatum were waiting for me when I got done. That was the best part of the day for sure.”[/quote_box_center]
Tatum? Did not know that. No word on whether Englebert, Tanner Boyle, Lupus and the rest of the Bad News Bears were as happy for D.J.
For J.B., on the other hand, you have to wonder if he has put the brain surgery leave of absence behind and is now as frustrated as the next pro at his inability to close the deal.
Stay tuned.
I’ma Be Inbee
Lydia Ko will not pull a Mickey Wright or a Byron Nelson and win nearly every event she enters in 2015. Well, she might, but Inbee Park will have a say in the matter.
Park, the “It” girl of 2013 — the one who nearly won all five major championships in women’s golf and was the most impressive No. 1 before Lydia came along — reminded all of us that she can golf that ball.
Park captured the HSBC Women’s Champions in by a pair of strokes over Ko. Lydia won the battle of birdies on day four (she made five, against two from Park), but lost the war of bogies (making three against zero for Park.)
American Stacy Lewis struggled in yet another final round, placing a distant third. These days, when I think Lewis, I see Jim Furyk and I hope it’s not a permanent condition for the best American golfer in the women’s game.
Change Your Clothes, Pack Your Bags, Win A Playoff
[quote_box_center]“You know, the odds were not that good, you know, but I changed. I had everything ready to go to the airport, and you know, almost was very satisfied with a third finish. You know, and suddenly it changed, and here I am. And I’m very, very pleased. You know, I don’t think I’m going to sleep tonight.”[/quote_box_center]
Good thing Alex Cejka hung around to watch Emiliano Grillo and Jon Curran inexplicably bogey the easy, par-five 18th to create a five-man playoff with Cejka, Sam Saunders and Tim Petrovic. Saunders had the best look at birdie on the first playoff hole, but he needed the eight footer to tie Cejka, who moments prior had knocked down a 12-footer to eliminate three men. Saunders pushed the putt right and Cejka had his first PGA Tour title.
Rich People Problems
Just to be clear, we’re talking talent, not money. Did you hear about the Paganas? They’re the couple who scored matching aces last Friday in Port St. Lucie.
According to Mrs. Pagana’s teaching pro, she had been “struggling with proper weight shift before her tee shot, and I told her not to hang too long on her left side.” So Barb dunked her tee ball, on her way to 91 81 71!!
Hey, pro, how much could the six-time club champ have been struggling if she shot 71?

Rich in talent not money? Obviously you didn’t see the Pine Valley hat the guy is wearing……

See, Tex, I knew that you knew that I knew..something.
I figure that folks in Florida playing high-end clubs and being six-time club champs there had plenty of lettuce, enough to make it rain salad. I decided to play up the rich in talent angle over the obvious rich in money one. Good eyes on you to notice the Pine Valley hat. Unless he bought it on Crump Cup Sunday, he has played it or belongs there, confirming your suspicion. Keep writing, friend.

If that is an Infrared video of Rory then he must be Zombie as his body is already cold! Infrared cameras (or thermal cameras) show the heat an object emits.
The ‘infrared’ video of Rory is just an effect applied to a normal video.

Excellent point. Thanks for helping us with the due diligence. Now, if I can get my hands on that club-toss footage, I can apply the same effect, correct?

I can’t believe how the one and only Facebook comment ended up here. I’ve had comments not posted on here for whatever reason and this comment gets through? How offensive? Inbee Park is one of the best players on the planet you fool. She would run rings around you, no matter which tees.

Inbee Park is certainly one of the top five women professionals in the world. Following her around is an educational experience. I’m glad that you pointed that out, Rich.
