Lydia Ko wins No. 10, more than Lexi and Wie combined

Published

on

Some perspective on Lydia Ko’s dominance: At the age of 17, she’s already won more professional events than Michelle Wie and Lexi Thompson combined.

Last week, Ko won the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open. This week, the world’s No. 1-ranked women’s golfer captured her country’s championship, the Women’s New Zealand Open. It was her 10th professional win, which includes six on the LPGA Tour, three on the Ladies European Tour and one on the ALPG Tour.

To compare, Wie has four LPGA Tour wins. Thompson also has four, as well as one win on the Ladies European Tour. Keep in mind that Wie and Thompson are a combined 11 years older than Ko.

One thing they have that Ko doesn’t? An LPGA major championship. But at Ko’s pace and with her track record in LPGA majors — she already has two top-3 finishes — it probably won’t take her long to scratch “win a major” off her increasingly short to-do list.

Remember Yani Tseng? She was all world, until she wasn’t. This is a fickle game. The last thing I’d do if I were Ko is mess too much with the swing. If she wants to improve her swing, she should take a trip to see Mickey Wright, who lives in Florida.

Way to go Lydia. I hope Leadbetter doesn’t turn you into another Aree and Naree, or Ty Tryon.

Hi Ty, I’m not the one you need to beat but I can show you a swing you can use to beat everybody else provided you believe you deserve to win.

Sergio Garcia has 8 PGA career wins. Lydia may have 8 LPGA wins before she officially becomes an adult in April. Amazing.

Dude, power? She’s only 17. She has tons of time to build power. It took Lexi a few years to gain the power she has now. It a few years I’m sure she’ll be hitting drives down the middle 270+ all day long.

If she had the length/power she would be just as dominate on the PGA tour. Talk about a complete game…yikes. Hope the game stays joyful for her and never feels like work. Go Lydia!!

If golf is looking for another “Tiger Woods”, they need look no further than Lydia Ko. She is a phenomenon!
