Why Sergio Garcia’s bag says Victor Garcia

Published

on

If you catch a glimpse of Sergio Garcia’s TaylorMade staff bag today, you might be surprised to see it reads “Victor” rather than “Sergio” Garcia.

Scratching your head, you’ll likely ask: “Did the TaylorMade embroidery department drop the ball, or is this another bit of cleverness from the equipment maker?”

The answer, of course, is the latter. With Father’s Day coinciding with the final round of the U.S. Open, the creative thinkers at TaylorMade decided to do something a bit different with the prime real estate on their staffer’s bags. The TMag staffers who haven’t opted out of the effort will have their names replaced by those of their fathers or loved ones this weekend.

Victor Garcia, of course, is Sergio’s father.

Jason Day, for his part, is opting to honor his son, Dash.

Dash-Day-

Here are a few more TMag staffers and who they’re honoring this weekend (and the relation of the named to the staffers):

Brendon Todd: Martin Todd (his father)

Boo Weekley: Parker & Aiden Weekley (his children)

Stewart Cink: PL Rob Cink (initials of his father-in-law who passed away, his father)

Jason Day: Dash Day (his son)

Sergio Garcia: Victor Garcia (his father)

Justin Rose: Leo & Lotte Rose (his children)

Retief Goosen: Theo Goosen (his father)

Fran Quinn: Owen Quinn (his father)

Dustin Johnson opted of the campaign and elected not to score some serious brownie points with his fiance’s family by having “Wayne Gretzky” embroidered on his bag.

Obviously, the promotion is self-serving to a degree as it leads to stories like this one being written. However, it’s a cool way for staffer’s to honor their loved ones.

Nice touch but considering its fathers day I feel that’s who should have been on everyone’s bag.

Don’t think Jason Day would put his dad on there considering he hasn’t seen him since he was five…
