New Titleist irons this fall…

By Member: Aces-6
Seems to me like it’s going to be difficult to improve on the hugely popular AP2’s. I wonder if Titleist will stay with the current 4 sets of irons (AP1-AP2-CB-MB) or if they will scrap a set?
I could see the MB’s being eliminated in favor of a combo set of MB and CB’s.
What do you guys think Titleist might have up their sleeve for the next generation of irons?

Are blades really ‘punishing’ or do people swing too hard? – GolfWRXers discuss

In our forums, our members have been discussing blade irons. WRXer ‘ChunkItGood’ questions whether blades are actually overly punishing, and kicks off the thread saying.
“I just heard a guy on tv quote John Anselmo (?) who apparently taught Woods to the effect that ‘you can hit the ball as hard as you want as long as you hit the center of the face and stay in balance.’
If people followed that rule, would they have to worry about punishing’ mishits? Shouldn’t they, instead of getting more forgiving clubs, just stop swinging so hard they cannot hit the center of the face?”
And our members have been sharing their thoughts on the matter in our forum.

- BagOfToast: “I find that a lot of the time I’m not hitting the center I’m just swinging too fast, so I’d agree with swinging too hard.”
- iknowbagu: “It’s not mutually exclusive. Yes, blades are more punishing on off-center strikes. Yes, people swing too hard.”
- jomatty: “Blades are punishing. I’m not sure that most players do better when they try to swing easy. As long as my tempo stays good and I don’t get quick from the top, my most consistent strike, with everything wedges, is one that is very close to as hard as I can swing. If I try to make that same hard swing and my tempo is bad, or if I try to make an easy swing and my tempo and sequencing is bad then I have lots of problems.”
- Phabs: “Believe Tiger’s dad said that to him, not a coach. Swing speed had nothing to do with contact point. I can swing slow and hit a ball like crap, or I can swing out of my shoes and have the same result.”

Starter irons with a $200 budget – GolfWRXers discuss

In our forums, our members have been discussing beginner irons on a budget. WRXer ‘Chch3’ is looking to build a set for his friend, and kicks off the thread asking:
“My question what iron set from the past would be good to get for $200. I have always played blades, CBs, or players clubs, so I am not up on the good game improvement clubs. I was thinking about getting him a set of pings, but I don’t know which ones are better than others. Any help will be greatly appreciated.”
And our members have been sharing their thoughts and suggestions in our forum.

- HammerGolf: “Ping Eye 2.”
- dmeeksdc: “I’ve done what the OP is doing. The Adams lineup of irons are really fabulous clubs for very little money. The Adams Idea Pro Forged is a larger CB with tungsten weighting and a triple radius sole that feels fantastic and is as forgiving as any iron. Also has a nice top line, and the shape is great. I’ve in the past given a set of these as a gift to a player just starting out, and I think the entire set was $150. Pretty incredible for the quality of that design. The MPF numbers on it place it as game improvement. High MOI, low and deep CG.”
- xkilgorextroutx: “You could also probably pick up some Wilson D100 or D200 irons in that price range, plenty of Adams and Tour Edge irons in that range too that are a few years older. Callaway irons and the many times mentioned Ping Eye2s also.”
- 596: “For a beginner… Any Ping G series. I played the Ping G10 as a beginner and used them down to a 2 handicap.”

Shortest time you’ve owned a club and why? – GolfWRXers discuss

In our forums, our members have been discussing their shortest relationship with a club. WRXer ‘Vater’ kicks off the thread saying:
“Happened to me recently. I tried out various 3 woods, found a great deal on the one that tested best for me, played with it one round, didn’t like the way it gapped and would crowd out my money 5 wood… so I turned around and returned it. From box on my porch to back at the UPS shipping center – four days.
I actually really, really liked the club, and the shaft was so smooth. But it was great in isolation. In combination with my driver and 5 wood on the course, it caused conflict.”
And our members have been sharing their ill-fated experiences in our forum.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- mogc60: “Custom ordered a Cobra Speedzone driver. It arrives at my local Worldwide Golf, and I pay and head to the range. Hit 5 balls and went right back to the store to get my in-store credit. Knew on the first swing it was all wrong. For the record, I’ve hit Cobra drivers almost exclusively for 10+ years.”
- xkilgorextroutx: “SLDR Mini. Time from purchase to return: approx 2 hours.”
- BagofToast: “SIM2 Ti rocket 3w. Loved the 5w, so figured I’d like it. Nope. In the bag and out in probably a week.”
- kiwihacker: “A set of Mizuno MP60 irons. Bought them on a whim on Saturday. One range session and one round on Sunday taught me I could not hit those things. Returned them Sunday afternoon.”

I just hope they don’t stop producing the MB

As a proud owner of the 710 CB irons set. I would like to make a comment on the balance of each club. As you see the intervals are and one per club which makes it very nice and easy to chose what club to use.
However in saying this I have use the MBs and they are very very easy to swing shaping the shot along with the narrow edge slicing through the fairway. If the new Korean own clubs could meshed together the CBs and the MBs would be the perfect irons set for 2014.

The 735’s are excellent. I am still gaming them. The cavity to muscle set gives fantastic feel and playability. A progressive, combo set like the 735’s would be nice, especially in the satin finish!

I wish they would come back with a combo set, as it seems like so many people custom order combo sets (MB/CB, MB/AP2, etc). I liked the 735.cm set they had years ago.

I am looking forward to upgrading once Titleist releases their new offerings. I currently play the 710 MB/CB and its time for me to buy a new set. I have always played Titleist, and one of the main things I love is that they offer everything in lefty! I hope they keep the AP2 as that is what I see buying this year.
