Report: Solheim Cup star was dropped by captain on Friday afternoon for refusing to play with two of her teammates

Update 9/27: Boutier has responded to the claims

According to a report, Celine Boutier asked for a partner change after her partner, Georgia Hall, underperformed during the morning session of the Solheim Cup on Friday.

Boutier and Hall lost to the United States pairing of Andrea Lee and Danielle Kang 1 up.

Apparently, the European team captain, Suzann Pettersen, obliged the request and offered to put the Frenchwoman with Leona Maguire in the afternoon, but Boutier didn’t like that pairing either.

The report indicates that after Boutier refused to play with Maguire, she was sat by Petterson for the afternoon session. It did seem odd that one of Europe’s best players sat in the afternoon session after going down 4-0 after foursomes.

The report comes from Handicap 54 on X, who has gotten some interesting scoops in the past. His initial report told a similar version of the story without names.

“Well, now I will give the names of this story. At the same time, I take this opportunity to clarify a detail that I explained poorly, but it is a detail that does not affect the fact. Why didn’t I tell them until now? I wanted to wait for the celebrations, and I wanted to wait for the Golf Sin Tags friends to say it (@gfcgolf and@alexlarrazabal1), who I knew had the same information and were on the course (I considered them to have priority).”

“The issue went like this: Céline Boutier, after Friday morning, asked Suzann Pettersen to play with someone other than Hall. Pettersen told [Boutier] that [s]he would play with Maguire (I explained that detail poorly) and Boutier refused. Therefore, Pettersen decided that Boutier would not play on that Friday afternoon.”

Brooks Koepka’s Smash GC side and prominent golf journalist trade insults over latest LIV trade

Published

on

On Thursday, more LIV transfer activity occurred, with Talor Gooch heading to Smash GC while Matthew Wolff was sent in the other direction to Range Goats GC.

The move marks the second transfer of the LIV window, and it will come as no surprise to golf fans to see Wolff depart the Brooks Koepka-led team after the 5-time major champ stated he had “given up” on him earlier this year.

Not everyone has been sold on the LIV team aspect, and Barstool Sports journalist Dan Rapaport quickly pointed out that the trade is very uneven in his view.

That shot from Rapaport triggered a response from the Smash GC social media team, who took a swipe at Rapaport’s journalistic ability in return.

Brooks Koepka has since retweeted the dig at Rapaport on his account at X, while Range Goats’ Bubba Watson also got involved by offering his services to “talk more about” the trade with the Barstool employee.

‘We aren’t asking football players to run slower’ – LPGA major champ blasts ‘silly’ ball rollback

Published

on

On Wednesday, the official plans for a rollback were announced by the USGA and R&A.

After the announcement, many LPGA players weren’t happy with the change, considering the problems the driving distance were mostly seen at the professional level in the men’s game, not the women’s.

Brittany Lincicome, who’s one of the longest hitters on the LPGA Tour hit out at the decision which she called “silly.”

“Silly.  We aren’t asking football players to run slower or tennis players to not hit the ball so hard. Just seems silly,”

Lincicome also added that “she hadn’t talked to one person who thinks it’s a good idea”.

World number one, Lilia Vu, said that their courses play plenty long enough already.

“I was a little surprised because I don’t think that golf courses for us play pretty short, in my opinion,” Vu said. “You can see from the majors they’re pretty difficult and in my opinion some of our regular-season events, too, so I wasn’t entirely ready.”

LPGA star Lydia Ko was one of the players who saw the other side of the argument.

“Players are getting more athletic, players are hitting it farther, and sometimes, you know, the maximum length a golf course can play is already what the men or women are already playing, so you might not be able to do other changes.”

The subject will continue to be hotly debated until the rules are implemented.

Report: Former World Number 1 not joining LIV despite speculation

Published

on

With speculation growing regarding Jon Rahm and a move to LIV, rumors have been floated as to what other PGA Tour players may be following the Spaniard to the rival league.

One person who’s been speculated as a strong fit for LIV is Australian star, Jason Day. However, according to Evin Priest of Australian Golf Digest, those rumors are baseless.

Many commenters on X are quick to point out that Day has been reluctant to travel to other countries to play, which clearly wouldn’t mesh with LIV’s global schedule.

With reports indicating that Rahm’s move to LIV would include a new team being formed, speculation on who could join Rahm should he leave, will likely continue into 2024.
