Spotted: Scotty Cameron Circle T putters at the 2023 Wells Fargo Championship

Published

on

Interesting Scotty sightings abounded this week at the Wells Fargo Championship (check out all our photos from the event here).

We break down some of the Circle T action at Quail Hollow, below.

Scott Stallings: Circle T GSS Timeless

Stallings had an interesting Scotty in the bag as it was made from the rarer GSS, German Stainless Steel, and lacked any stampings of the model name on it. From the photos it looks like a Timeless, similar to the Newport 2, with the GSS stamping on the hosel and a Circle T made into a crown on the face. The back cavity has “Cameron” stamped upside down and a single site dot adorns the thin topline. The tri-sole is very simple as well with three stars on the toe and “350” near the heel that I am going to assume is the weight of the head.

Taylor Montgomery: Circle T TG6.2

Scotty’s GoLo mallet seems to be getting more and more popular on tour as Taylor Montgomery is one of the latest players to test one out. Taylor’s is a little unique as he has a plumbers neck, or crank neck, welded on for some added toe hang. The head is made from Scoty’s Tourtype SSS stainless steel and features a little deeper milling on the face for a softer feel and muted sound. Taylor’s putter is covered in cherry bombs on the face and back cavity that are filled with the same translucent red paint that covers the Circle T logo on the sole. Twin 10-gram Circle T weights are installed on the sole and a single black site line is milled into the flange.

Eric Cole: Circle T SB-2

I feel like we have seen a few center-shafted putters pop up on the putting green recently, and it looks like Eric Cole is a fan. We spotted a Circle T SB-2 with a center shaft welded on in his bag and these center-shafted models are usually face balanced. The small site line is on the topline right next to the post for the shaft, leaving the flange naked. The face has a deeper milling and triple cherry bombs near the toe. Milled from SSS the SB-2 is a wider version of a Newport 2 head and contains 5 cherry bombs in the back cavity. A large Circle T logo is milled into the sole plate and we have 15g weights installed in the heel an toe sections.

Ryan Gerard: Circle T TG6

Another TG6, based on the retail GoLo head, but done in black for Ryan Gerard. Ryan went with a little shallower milling on the face but kept the three cherry bombs, filled with light blue paint. We also see his initials stamped on the toe of the face in matching light blue paint. A small single site line sits on top of the topline with a flange void of any alignment aids. It seems like all the TG6 putters are made from Scotty’s Surgical Stainless Steel and this model is no exception, with SSS logos on the face and on the sole. Ryan went with twin 15-gram weights and a large sole plate with a Circle T logo filled with light blue paint fill.

Rickie Fowler’s new putter: Standard-length Odyssey Jailbird 380 in custom orange

Published

on

Editor’s note: This is an excerpt from a piece our Andrew Tursky originally wrote for PGATour.com’s Equipment Report. Head over there for the full article.

…The Jailbird craze hasn’t really slowed down in 2024, either. According to Odyssey rep Joe Toulon, there are about 18-20 Jailbird putter users on the PGA TOUR.

Most recently, Akshay Bhatia won the 2024 Valero Texas Open using a broomstick-style Odyssey Jailbird 380 putter and Webb Simpson is switching into a replica of that putter at the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship.

Now, Fowler, who essentially started the whole Jailbird craze, is making a significant change to his putter setup.

Fowler, who has had a couple weeks off since the 2024 RBC Heritage, started experimenting with a new, custom-orange Jailbird 380 head that’s equipped with a standard 35-inch putter build, rather than his previous 38-inch counter-balanced setup.

According to Fowler, while he still likes the look and forgiveness of his Jailbird putter head, he’s looking to re-incorporate more feel into his hands during the putting stroke.

He told GolfWRX.com on Tuesday at the Wells Fargo Championship that the 38-inch counterbalanced setup “served its purpose” by helping him to neutralize his hands during the stroke, but now it’s time to try the standard-length putter with a standard-size SuperStroke Pistol Tour grip to help with his feel and speed control.

Although Fowler was also spotted testing standard-length mallets from L.A.B. Golf and Axis1 on Tuesday, he confirmed that the custom Odyssey Jailbird 380 is the putter he’ll use this week at the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship.

Head over to PGATour.com for the full article.
