Controversial analyst says Phil Mickelson and LIV golf were the winners at 2023 Masters
Over the weekend, the LIV pros who teed it up at Augusta National surprised many with some stellar performances that saw three of the rebel tour players finish in the top four at the opening major of the year.
On Fox Sports 1, host of “The Herd”, Colin Cowherd sounded off on his adoration for Phil Mickelson and the rest of the LIV Golfers who played well at the 2023 Masters.

On Phil Mickelson: “He didn’t want to have to be in the grind and deal with all the Pro-Am stuff. He wanted to make money, play less and be treated like the rockstar he is. And guess what? That’s the best he’s ever looked. He was thin, his skin was good, his body looked great, his golf was amazing he was hitting his putts.”
Cowherd also declared that LIV Golfers proved their point by playing well at the Masters.
“I was rooting for Brooks and I was rooting for Phil Mickelson. I know a lot of you think they’re immoral and you don’t like them, but you know what? They proved their point.”
The ratings would indicate that having LIV golfers at the Masters was undoubtedly good for golf.
CBS says Sunday's broadcast of the Masters was the most-watched round on any network in five years, averaging 12.058M viewers.

Cowherd thinks he knows why.
“Villains are good for all sports, including golf.”

Awkward moment: Reporter thinking she’s interviewing Vince Young, finds out it’s not actually Vince Young
On Thursday, footage of an on-course interview at the Korn Ferry Tour’s BMW Charity Pro-Am was shown on Golf Channel.
The interviewer believed she was speaking to former Texas Longhorn and NFL quarterback Vince Young. However, that was not the case, as can be seen in this clip posted on X by Carter Donnick.
I’m dying laughing they thought they were talking to Vince Young, might be the most awkward interview I’ve ever seen pic.twitter.com/cjz0gYqg9D
— Carter Donnick (@CDonnick1) June 6, 2024
The man was actually Everette Sands.
“I apologize, but you have the wrong person. I’m Everette Sands from The Citadel. I’m a football coach,” Sands said.
Sands, a college running backs skills coach at The Citadel, was a great sport about it, and answered the question anyway.
The interview was certainly one of the more awkward exchanges in recent memory.

Edoardo Molinari explains exactly what Jon Rahm must do to be eligible for 2025 Ryder Cup
While speaking with GolfWRX, Edoardo Molinari, who was a vice captain for the European team in Rome last fall, and will be once again at Bethpage Black in 2025, explained what European stars Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton will have to do to participate in the 2025 Ryder Cup.
The duo joined LIV Golf early this year, leaving their Ryder Cup futures in question.
“Well, basically nothing has changed from two years ago, which means that obviously Jon (Rahm) at the moment is still a European Tour member. They are European tour members and as long as they play their minimum, which is four DP World Tour events a year, then they’re eligible for the Ryder cup.
“It was the same two years ago when some of the guys that went to leave, they decided either to resign the membership or they didn’t play the minimum, so they were not eligible.
“But there were some guys that went and, you know, paid all the sanctions and then they were still eligible. So, it’s not only down to us, it’s more like, if they want to play, they know that they just need to play four events and not resign the membership and hopefully they will because everyone knows how good Jon and Tyrrell and, even some of the others that [joined LIV] and you want to be able to pick from anyone.
“I think there’s been a lot of discussions going on behind the scenes and conversations and hopefully they will remain members.
“I think Jon is obviously very, very keen with the, with the Seve and Olazabal legacy to, to keep playing other Ryder cups. Tyrrell is the same. I mean, the thing is, I think the Europeans they really love and enjoy the Ryder Cup. They, they look forward to it every, every two years is like if you ask any one of them, now they’re already thinking about Bethpage, which is why I’m very confident that John and Tyrrell especially will do everything they can to remain members.”
Both Rahm and Hatton have remained DP World Tour members, but neither of them has played in a DP World Tour event since joining LIV thus far.
