SPOTTED: Mitsubishi Tensei 1K Pro Blue shafts at the Cadence Bank Houston Open

Published

on

GolfWRX spotted a Mitsubishi Tensei 1K Pro Blue shaft on the range at this week’s Cadence Bank Houston Open. In keeping with Mitsubishi’s traditional profiles, 1K Pro Blue is expected to be a mid launch, mid-low spin shaft. It will join the 1K lineup, which currently includes 1K Pro White, 1K Pro Orange, 1K Black. (One needn’t be a clairvoyant to see a 1K Pro Red in the future as well)

The foundation for the Tensei 1K family is 1K fiber, which is three times thinner than traditional carbon kevlar. It produces a a tighter and more consistent fiber weave. 1K Pro Blue is also expected to feature what Mitsubishi calls dual-phase Xlink Tech Resin that creates a structure that is stronger and more responsive. Additionally, a boron fiber tip produces a stable, yet responsive, shaft.

Per a source at the company: “1K Pro Blue is in its early stages, so much so that this is actually the very first batch to make it out to tour. We’re super excited about how willing guys were to test it immediately and the initial data we’re gathering in those tests has been very encouraging. TBD on exact date when these will make it to retail, but definitely shooting for some point in 2023.”

In response to a question in the GolfWRX forums, Mitsubishi indicated 1K Pro Blue will “launch and spin a hair more” than Ka’ili Blue and will feel stiffer in the midsection.

Additionally, we spotted Hideki Matsuyama kicking tires on the shaft in Houston. No word on whether he plans to put it in play, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled.

See what GolfWRXers are saying about the new Mitsubishi Tensei 1K Pro Blue in this forum thread.

WITB Time Machine: Tiger Woods, 2017 Hero World Challenge

Published

on

Following a 10-month layoff and his then-fourth back surgery, Tiger Woods teed it up at the 2017 Hero World Challenge. Tiger finished 9th in the event, 10 strokes behind Rickie Fowler, but the 15-time major champion also gave fans some glimpses of his former dominance, including this majestic 3-wood approach shot from 271 yards out on a par 5:

He also had an amazing chip in for birdie on the 17th hole:

Tiger’s driver was also excellent that week, and his overall stats were pretty impressive in his second round: Woods hit 9 of 13 fairways, 13 of 18 greens and 27 putts. 31-37=68.

Woods was expected to return to action at this week’s competition — making his first start since The Open Championship in July where he missed the cut. However, he announced Monday he was withdrawing owing to plantar fasciitis in his right foot.
