Report: LIV likely to win battle for world ranking points thanks to ‘strategic alliance’ with minor tour

According to the Telegraph, LIV Golf has found a path to securing OWGR points.
The report indicates that LIV is forming a “strategic alliance” with the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) Tour. In theory, this would allow the players to earn world ranking points starting this week at LIV Bangkok.
In turn, the alliance with LIV will give the struggling MENA Tour a path to relevance. The current OWGR rule indicates that a tour must have the majority of it’s events with a cut. It would seem that the LIV events will be the in the minority of events plays, with the regular MENA Tour events starting to ramp back up after LIV Bangkok.
“No Laying Up” holds the opinion that this move by LIV won’t grant them OWGR points right away.
In a stunning turn of events, LIV is telling players what they want to hear.
The reality: The MENA Tour (lol) has submitted this week's LIV field as their own.
The OWGR has NOT granted them points for this week's event as of now. https://t.co/JRs5nBLBSp

The OWGR has not released a statement as of yet regarding this turn of events.

Bryson’s current situation with Cobra revealed as he uses TaylorMade driver at Saudi International

At this week’s Saudi International, Bryson DeChambeau surprised golf fans by putting TaylorMade’s Stealth Plus 2 driver in the bag. Bryson has been a long time staffer at Cobra Golf and it was a shock to see the 28-year-old with a driver from a different OEM to begin his season.

Per Dan Rapaport of Barstool Sports, a Cobra rep has confirmed that Bryson is simply out of contract with the brand, but that the two parties are currently in discussion about this year and the future.
Regarding Bryson gaming the TaylorMade Stealth this week in Saudi Arabia…a Cobra rep confirms that Bryson DeChambeau is not currently on staff with Cobra as his contract was up at the end of 2022.
“We are in discussions about 2023 and the future.”

In our forums, our members have been discussing the changeup from DeChambeau, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- FifeRiviera: “Honestly Cobra woods are the single most underrated pieces of equipment on the market.”
- Lacey Underall: “Just my guess – everyone on LIV will be an equipment free agent soon.”
- KimmerBH: “Never been a fan of Bryson but I do miss seeing him play every week along with some others that went to LIV. He was definitely entertaining to watch, I’ll give him that.”

‘Sums up my life in the golf industry’ – Paige Spiranac on polarizing Phil Mickelson tweet

After a long break from Twitter, Phil Mickelson was extremely active on Twitter yesterday. His resurgence resulted in the golf world reacting for most of the day.
Paige Spiranac used one of Phil’s tweets to “sum up” what it was like to be a female in the golf industry.

— Paige Spiranac (@PaigeSpiranac) February 3, 2023
The tweet seemed to be a joke, and to be clear the tweet Phil shared wasn’t directed towards Spiranac, yet some Lefty detractors weighed in calling the tweet “misogynistic.”
The full context of the tweet is here:

We can be sure that as long as Mickelson is this active on Twitter, the app will be buzzing with golf personalities and their reactions.

‘The hypocrisy is astounding’ – Phil Mickelson takes aim at RBC for missing logo at Saudi International

This morning, Cameron Young played the first round of this week’s Saudi International at Royal Greens Golf and Country Club.
As noticed by Twitter user “EPatGolf”, the 25-year-old PGA Tour player was missing the RBC logo that is typically on his sleeve.

— NUCLR GOLF (@NUCLRGOLF) February 2, 2023
Patterson speculated that the reason for the missing logo was RBC’s reluctance to be associated with golf being played in Saudi Arabia.
Never a stranger to controversy, Phil Mickelson weighed in on the topic, accusing RBC of hypocrisy.
RBC was part of the team that brought Aramco public and they made many $ millions on the deal. The hypocrisy is astounding ?
— Phil Mickelson (@PhilMickelson) February 2, 2023
Mickelson has been extremely active on Twitter lately and replied to a Danny Woodhead tweet just a short while ago about a potential LIV vs PGA Tour match with Tiger Woods and Phil as captains, even managing a little dig at his long-time foe.
It sounds great, but we would dominate them so soundly and it would be over so quick that tv would have to fill an hour of dead time. That’s why it’s not happening at this time ????

The Greg Norman Revenge Tour just get sillier. OWGR are not planning to award ranking points until they have a good look at it and. hopefully, tell Mr Norman to get lost.

How can you get world ranking points for playing 3 rounds of exhibition golf in a semi team event under no tournament pressure???
LIV Golf is an absolute joke

This is ugly. I still don’t understand what the major beef is? It literally can’t be political rights as the PGA tour of America’s sponsors are in bed with them as well.

It is already terribly pathetic how people still have issues with LIV. It seems now the US Gov will sanction Saudi royal family. What a great stupidity of not granting OWGR points to such a strong field over each LIV event, it is a testament of “true” fairness in modern golf.

World rankings don’t matter when you’re just passing points between yourselves and minor leaguers and you can’t cash in the points to get entry into majors.
LOL.
