SPOTTED: Srixon ZX5 “Mk II LS” and ZX7 “Mk II” drivers being tested in Napa
It’s the start of the new season at the 2022 Fortinet Championship, and we’re starting to see brand new products being tested out on the PGA Tour (such as a Wilson Dynapwr driver and Cobra King Tour irons). On Tuesday in Napa, GolfWRX spotted various Srixon staffers seeing and testing new Srixon drivers for the first time, including Hideki Matsuyama.
While it’s still too early for any technical/design information, we were able to take in-hand photos of new Srixon “ZX5 Mk II LS” and “ZX7 Mk II” drivers from inside PGA Tour players’ bags. All we know for sure is that the ZX5 model has “LS” – presumably standing for “low spin” – on the sole and hosel, and both the ZX5 and ZX7 have “Rebound Frame” and “MkII” written on them, as well. The ZX5 appears to have a sole weight near the face, whereas the ZX7 has two sole weights near the rear.
The last time we saw new drivers from Srixon was the release of the company’s current ZX5 and ZX7 drivers in 2021. It appears that the drivers pictured below may eventually be their replacements in the retail market, but we don’t have a confirmed timeline as of yet from Srixon. PGA Tour players themselves are still seeing the drivers for their first time.
For now, let’s enjoy the photos of new Srixon ZX5 Mk II LS and Srixon ZX7 Mk II drivers below.

Spotted: Nate Lashley’s Ping PLD “Wolverine” putter
Ping PLD putters have been a very common site on profesional tours. Pros seem to gravitate toward the PLD line’s custom options and precision milling. We have seen the PLD line expanded over the years, but we haven’t seen too many, if any, large mallets.
This week we spotted a PLD putter in Nate Lashley’s bag that has a similar look to the old Ping Wolverine head shape. This putter is a large mallet with the famous “claws” on the outside and oval center that housed the alignment aid.
Nick’s putter has the PLD logo on the back but also looks like it might have an insert installed on the face. It is hard to tell but at the address picture, it looks like the face is a lighter material than the rest of the putters. The putter is center-shafted and should be face-balanced with a high MOI for stability and forgiveness on mishits. The sole is completely milled and has no markings of name or technologies that might be present in the head. A single white site line is on the top of the putter for alignment.
Nick’s putter is finished off with a chrome steel shaft and a Super Stroke Zenergy Flatso 2.0 grip in black and white.

You mentioned seeing Srixon drivers in players’ bags…
Which players?

I think that for the last ten years, the consistently-best looking drivers have been Srixons.
I just wish there were more places/outlets to try them and do A/B testing.

I agree. Srixon makes great irons and the wood are good also. It’s just hard to find someplace to hit the woods. I’ve currently got the driver and 3 wood and they’ve been very consistent. Looking forward to the low spin version
