Kyle Berkshire smashes ball speed world record…again

Kyle Berkshire, two-time winner of the World Long Drive Championship, has blown away his previous ball speed record, now setting the bar at an eye-popping 236mph.

Put into perspective, Cameron Champ, current leader of the ‘ball speed’ averages on the PGA Tour, can muster an average of 188.94mph through 56 rounds, his fastest figure being 194.64mph. Whilst driving it on the course is completely different to a wild slash, Berkshire remains over 41mph faster.

Filming alongside fellow 2021 Long Drive competitor and host for the day, Bryson DeChambeau, the pair were providing content for pro golf net supplier The Net Return when Berkshire hit the new unofficial record.

Having warmed up with figures in the DeChambeau region of 220, the Foresight GCQuad recorded his first few shots at between 230 and 232mph.

And then the big one.

Broadcast live on his Instagram account, Berkshire was confident he could reach 235mph, itself a record – “100 percent I can do it.”

He then did.

With a 5.5? Cobra LTDx LS driver in hand, Berkshire stopped the speedo at the record 236mph, with his host seemingly more excited than the player himself.

The comments on his social media show that the distance travelled may have been incorrect – ” plenty will point out that “it only carried 291 yards” (this is due to a misread on spin… at these speeds spin is very hard to pick up when the ball only travels a short distance)” – but as the camera pans down to the screen, it clearly indicates the stunning figure.

Addressing those of his 191k followers that may have watched live, or will see the clip, Berkshire commented, “the fact is when you spend your life doing what you’re passionate about, it brings about a special feeling of happiness and satisfaction with life. This is how I feel about the sport of long drive (and breaking speed records/pushing limits) and I hope everybody reading this finds their passion in life and takes it as far as they can ????.”

Having abandoned his idea of getting a PGA Tour card, Berkshire is currently miles clear in the 2022 Professional Long Drivers Association standings, and will start a red-hot favourite for the world championships at the end of September.

It might have been a misread of spin. But it’s not because of the distance traveled. The GC quad is calculating the ball flight for a very short window, unlike a trackman. So it makes no difference whether he was hitting at a range or into a net on the reading.

Interesting, isn’t it, that this is what turns Bryson D Shambo on these days.. rather than competing against the best golfers in the world in the FedEx Cup playoffs? Welcome to anonymity, bryson.

Tiger Woods reveals the best celebrity foursome he’s ever played with

With Capital One’s The Match set to take place this weekend, Tiger Woods was asked about the best celebrity foursome that he’s ever played a round with.

Tiger replied:

“[John] Smoltz, [Tom] Glavine and [Greg] Maddux when they were all pitching with the Braves. That was epic. I shot 62, 62 and lost money.”

The three pitchers combined to win seven National League Cy Young Awards in the 1990s and led the Atlanta Braves to a World Series win in 1995.

The 15-time major champion was also asked what his “dream foursome” would be, to which he replied: “It wouldn’t be a foursome. It would be my dad, myself and Charlie.”

Tiger’s father, Earl, passed away in 2006 and his son, Charlie, was born in 2009.

Former NBA star turned college golfer J.R. Smith taking lessons from Tiger’s ex-coach

Former NBA player J.R. Smith is now taking golf lessons from Tiger Woods’ former coach, Chris Como.

The lessons can be seen on the new show “Private Lessons” on the premium subscription of GolfPass.

Of his lessons with Como, Smith said, “For me, I think the most appealing part (about taking a lesson from Como) was about like how fast the transition for him to understand. Like, obviously, everybody doesn’t think the same,” he added, “but to make to feel certain sensations in the golf swing.”

The two-time NBA Champion made $90 million as a basketball player but signed an NIL deal as a golfer in early 2022.

In addition to working with Tiger Woods and Smith, Como has also worked with Bryson DeChambeau, who won the 2020 U.S. Open under his guidance.

LIV pro’s wife takes vicious swipe at Tiger Woods over his car accident

It’s been a year of drama and controversies in the golfing world, with the divide between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf showing no signs of improving.

Much of the bad blood between the two has played out off the course, and that is once again the case this week, as the wife of prominent LIV golfer Pat Perez, Ashley, took a vicious swipe at Tiger Woods over his single-car accident in 2021.

On Tuesday, Golf Balling shared a video on its Instagram account where Woods described his physical limitations following his car crash. In the comments, Ashley Perez decided to share her take, saying:

“Literally why driving under the influence is ILLEGAL. I don’t feel bad for him. Thank god he didn’t kill anyone. See ya.”

The comment has since been deleted, and it is not the first time Ashely has targeted PGA Tour golfers either. Back in September, Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele and their respective partners took a trip to the Napa Valley, which they posted on Instagram.

However, the trip apparently did not impress Mrs Perez, who shared, before once again deleting, her take on the vacation:

It’s been a wild year for the Perez’s on and off the course. The 46-year-old LIV pro earned $8,024,167 with the breakaway tour in 2022, primarily thanks to being part of the 4 Aces GC team.

While off the course, Perez spoke about his deep ‘hate’ for Phil Mickelson, accusing Lefty of committing an “uncrossable and unforgivable act” against him.

Following this latest drama, it’s likely safe to say that any relationship Perez once had with Tiger may well now be a thing of the past.
