Text message EXPOSES Greg Norman as Mickelson biographer is ‘physically removed’ from LIV presser

Alan Shipnuck shared via his Twitter account that he was physically removed from the first round of LIV Golf Series’ inaugural event outside of London on Thursday.

There has been plenty of controversy surrounding Shipnuck, who spoke with Phil Mickelson back in November 2021 ahead of writing his  book titled “Phil: The Rip-Roaring (and Unauthorized!) Biography of Golf’s Most Colorful Superstar”.

During their conversation, Mickelson told Shipnuck that he wanted to take part in the new LIV Golf Invitational Series because he wanted to use Saudi Arabia’s interest in forming the league to leverage the PGA Tour into giving the players what he believes they are worth.

Mickelson claims that the comments were given to Shipnuck “off the record”, but Shipnuck has disputed that claim.

Shipnuck arrived to St. Albans with hopes of speaking to Mickelson prior to his round, but reported that Mickelson was unsurprisingly not interested in doing so.

Despite being told Mickelson did not want him there, Shipnuck went to his press conference anyway before he was forcibly removed.

Later on Thursday, Shipnuck then revealed on Twitter how he sent a text message to LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman to let him know that he was removed by security.

Shipnuck texted: “Are you aware that I just got muscled out out of Phil’s press conference by a couple of your goons? Luckily for you guys I kept my cool and deescalated the situation. Please call me to discuss.”

Norman replied: “Did not hear. Thanks for letting me know.”

Shipnuck then sent Norman a photo that he had been sent of Norman standing behind him outside the media centre, revealing that Norman was likely very well aware of what was going on.

The drama and controversy surround everything LIV Golf continues to dominate headlines. Round two of the 54 hole event is set to take place at 2:15 local time for a shotgun start.

    After Shipnuck’s accurate, uncontested reporting…

After Mickelson’s admission/confession to having said a lot of things he regrets…

After Norman’s weird, impolitic and inexplicable management of LIV…

And now after Norman’s fundamentally duplicitous treatment of Shipnuck after Shipnuck was wrongfully removed from the LIV event…

The GolfWRX readers heap their scorn on… Shipnuck and the media??!!??

Shipnuck, just doing the job of a very senior golf writer and doing it very well.

I have to say; I really think this goes way beyond golf.

Sleazy sports journalist and I do not like Greg Norman. Who even watches ESPN clowns and reads anything sports writers write anymore? The scummy Boston sportswriters for decades made Ted Williams life miserable. Shippy is a POS.

Stupid comment. Rest of the world will never understand the US’s insistence on those weapons being available to common (and, in your case unintelligent!) folk.

Shipnuck is a tool and looking for any controversy.
Really you texted Greg instead of just turning around. How did you not notice someone standing 5 feet from you.

If he really has a problem with the ethics of LIV golf, why is he there covering it? Why give it any media attention at all?

      • Joey5Picks

        Jun 10, 2022 at 1:32 pm

Uh, FIGJAM created the chaos by calling Shipnuck (after repeatedly denying Shipnuck’s invitations to contribute to the book) and going scorched-earth on the PGA Tour and the Saudi Golf League. In typical right-wing fashion, Phil then claims to the be the victim and being “cancelled” (the new term for consequences for our actions).

It’s a golf reporter’s job to report on golf. That’s what Shipnuck was there to do. Does the Saudi Golf League NOT want reporters covering it? What are they trying to hide?

He didn’t notice Norman because Norman was lurking 20 feet behind him, while bruiser security guards confronted Shipnuck face-to-face.

Now tell me why, when Shipmuck essentially confronted Norman in a text message, Norman didn’t own the whole thing like a man and either apologize (as he should have, on reflection) or told Shipnuck straight up, “ I was there. Security was acting on my orders and I will never again credential you for another LIV event. Don’t even ask. Because I am the boss here…”

Report: LIV win battle for world ranking points thanks to ‘strategic alliance’ with minor tour

According to the Telegraph, LIV Golf has found a path to securing OWGR points.

The report indicates that LIV is forming a “strategic alliance” with the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) Tour. In theory, this would allow the players to earn world ranking points starting this week at LIV Bangkok.

In turn, the alliance with LIV will give the struggling MENA Tour a path to relevance. The current OWGR rule indicates that a tour must have the majority of it’s events with a cut. It would seem that the LIV events will be the in the minority of events plays, with the regular MENA Tour events starting to ramp back up after LIV Bangkok.

“No Laying Up” holds the opinion that this move by LIV won’t grant them OWGR points right away.

The OWGR has not released a statement as of yet regarding this turn of events.

Analyst and close friend says Tiger ‘might surprise everybody’ this fall

There has been plenty of negative speculation regarding Tiger Woods ability to play competitive golf in the future. It was viewed as a troubling sign that Woods wasn’t able to attend to Presidents Cup due to “physical limitations” and instead had to conference with American team captain Davis Love III over the phone.

Then, it was rumored that he “didn’t look right” while caddying for his son Charlie at a tournament.

However, there seems to be a glimmer of hope for Tiger fans as his good friend Notah Begay III just speculated that Woods may “surprise everybody” while on SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio.

When asked the next time we will see the 15-time major champion play. Begay said:

“I’m fairly certain it’s going to be at the PNC [Championship] with Charlie. Charlie’s starting to play a few more events – he played in one of my junior golf tour events last weekend, which was great to see him shoot his career-low round 68 with Tiger on the bag so that was kind of cool to be able to see that.”

More importantly, Begay said that Tiger is still looking for ways to improve the condition of his leg.

“Tiger’s just steadily trying to find ways to get a little bit more stability in his leg,” he said. “It was really presenting some major challenges at St. Andrews. I had a chance to talk with him during the round out there and it’s just constant discomfort so it’s hard to focus on golf, which is hard enough, much less having to deal with the literal pain of your leg aching throughout the day.

“I know that as soon as he feels like he can be competitive because I think he got a good taste of what it’s going to take this past year, we’ll see him. We might see him one time this fall, he might surprise everybody.”

Golf mad parents name newborn child after a golf club

Last week we reported on a golf obsessed couple, and their Masters themed wedding. Cute it may have been, but there was something a little over the top about it.

If you think it couldn’t get worse, how about naming your newborn child after a golf club and dressing his hospital bed with golf bedding?

Social media site yesterday hosted a photo taken by user ‘jellybloom17’ and caused an obvious reaction.

Welcome to the world, Driver. I know there is a joke here and I know what it is. You make it tho. And go! from golf

Yep, the parents swaddled the baby in a golf-themed blanket and photographed him on a duvet, with the name ‘Driver’ plastered in giant letters.

Reddit users were confused and astounded, with one claiming that:

“I wasn’t sure what the green blob in front of the car was,” before realising, ” it was a golf course.”

“They didn’t name him after a person who operates a motor vehicle. They named him after a golf club!”

Hence the title of the original post – “Welcome to the world, Driver.”

Others questioned the naming, whilst there were doubts if the child grows up not to enjoy the sport:

“What if he grows up and hates golf?” was one comment, whilst another poster concluded, “Probably should not name your kids after sports.”

Either way, it would be good to hear what siblings Nineiron, Wedge and Teepeg say on the matter.
