Best affordable ball for a beginner? – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing affordable golf balls. WRXer ‘GDub17’ is looking for recommendations for his 14-year-old son and gives readers some context, saying:

“I bought some top flite xl’s for his first 9 hole round because I figured we’d lose a bunch of balls, but we ended losing only one on his very first 9 hole round. He didn’t miss a fairway off the tee except for a par 3, so I’d like to buy some slightly better balls for us to use. Money is an object, so nothing crazy expensive. What ball do you guys recommend?”

And our members have been sharing their best picks in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • Nessism: “Costco Kirkland Signature 3-piece V2.0. An unbeatable value in the world of balls.”
  • SE Gamer: “Maxfli Tour or Tour X. You can get 4 dozen for around $100. Every bit as good as a Pro V at half the price. I’ve been playing the X version and have been super happy with it.”
  • Roejye: “I’m a big fan of the Cut family of balls. If you want tour level they have the grey and blue for $20/dozen. Only downside is they can scuff easier than others. The grey seems better than the blue for that, and it seems like they have improved the durability. Straight up value, the Cut red is a good ball IMO, can get 24 for $20 at Walmart. I also have a soft spot for the noodle. If you don’t mind used, than going on the bay and looking for high quality used balls seems like a good buy. Another thing is going somewhere on course that’s a magnet for errant shots and doing some ball hunting. I would only do that if you were the last group on the course or just grabbing a couple that look good if you’re looking for yours in one of those areas.”

Wilson Ultra. Why would you pay any more, if you’re a beginner. You don’t need anything else.
