Patrick Reed’s Twitter suggests that he’s fuming with Stricker’s Ryder Cup snub

The omission of Patrick Reed from the 2021 U.S. Ryder Cup team was the big talking point on Wednesday as Steve Stricker made his six picks for the biennial contest that gets underway later this month.

The Texan has an imposing 7-3-2 career record at the Ryder Cup but will be watching the event this year from home after Captain Stricker decided against selecting Reed.

The 54-year-old told media on Wednesday that Reed took the news of his exclusion like a “true champion,” but if the Texan’s activity on Twitter is anything to go by, it’s clear that the 2018 Masters winner is not impressed by the snub.

Following the announcement, Reed liked multiple posts from users on the social media platform who were heavily critical of Stricker’s decision, which suggests that the 31-year-old isn’t one bit pleased with the captain.

Here’s a look at some of the posts Reed liked on Wednesday on Twitter

Stricker pinpointed the “uncertainty of his health,” as one of the primary reasons for Reed’s exclusion, following the Texan’s recent recovery from bilateral pneumonia which left him battling for his life.

The Wisconsin native instead used his six selections on Daniel Berger, Harris English, Tony Finau, Xander Schauffele, Scottie Scheffler, and Jordan Spieth.

Patrick Reed has since unliked the above tweets on the social media platform.

I suspect that quote is lost on Patrick Reed.

All the Reed haters just hate that he has spoken the truth about the uppity frat boy golf mentality of the “Ryder Cup Group”. Exact reason why the Europeans continue to kick our a**. USA is too worried about PR than whatever it takes to win. We need a few personalities like Reed, Kisner and Horschel on the team, rather than a bunch of media dolls.

Reed does not run his social media as many athletes do not. Reed is on vacation with his beautiful family. He is fantastic. and fully recovered. Ready to begin his season soon.

I was hoping Reed would be picked. So that the world golfing press could cross-examine Reed on live video about the fundamentally unbelievable details from Reed about his hospitalization.

    He had been vaccinated? When?
He was never tested for COVID while a patient in a major Houston medical center, being treated for double pneumonia? Huh?!? That would be malpractice if true. Shame on Reed for throwing his treaters under the bus like that. It’s almost as bad as Reed’s stupidity.
But wait; he was tested upon his hospital release, and was negative? Why do you even say stuff like that, Patrick? You expect us to believe that you were never tested for COVID while you were a patient, but that you were tested as you were being discharged?
You were never treated for COVID? Nobody ever said to you that you were being treated for COVID?

There is one easy way to settle this, and that is for Reed to authorize his attending physician at Houston Methodist to answer questions, even if the questions were strictly limited to the most basic questions about Reed’s diagnosis and treatment for that one admission, and nothing else personal.

Reed doesn’t have to answer questions, it’s true.

But when you choose to announce your hospitalization on Twitter, and then talk about your hospitalization in a way that would imply that your treating doctors committed malpractice, with a nonsensical timeline to boot, then “none of your business” isn’t a valid response anymore.

Let me just tell you what I hate about a lot of these guys, be it Kirk Cousins, or Bryson DeChambeau, or Carson Wentz, or Patrick Reed.

They go in front of the press, and offer up a position on something of national public health importance like COVID precautions or vaccines, and then slink away when the substantive, detailed questions come in.

I expect that they each know, from experience, that they do indeed appeal to a certain kind of fan. Doin’ some plain talkin’. Givin’ it back to the reporters, cuz who likes reporters, anyway?

And I think that they also know that if they go down the road of trying to explain the stuff they heard in the locker room, or on social media, or listening to Joe Rogan or something, that the reporters’ questions will demolish them. The athletes talking about epidemiology will be in way over their heads.

So they retreat to, “It’s a personal thing.”

  17. Terry, this is not a game

    Sep 10, 2021 at 9:10 am

It’s an exhibition. A continent vs 12 individuals who were born/have citizenship in the United States. Since 1995, this event has lost its glory as it has become political theater for the PGA of America and an inconvenience for the top American players. Gone are the days where a captain would say to his players ““Boys, there’s nothing to being the captain of the Ryder Cup.” or “You guys are all great players. Pairing is really easy” or “But let me tell you boys one thing – I don’t want my name on that trophy as a losing captain.”

It’s all a week of self promotion for majority of the guys there.

Reed doesn’t deserve to be playing for his country. He has significant character flaws and has thrown his teammates under the bus before. I would rather see a unified American team playing with honor and lose than to have Reed causing problems off-course (and possibly cheating on-course) and the the team win while leaving a bad taste in the collective mouth of the golfing world.

Tiger hitting fairway woods on range at Hero fuels PNC Championship entry speculation

To go alongside his first media briefing since his car accident back in February, Tiger Woods was spotted taking full swings with a fairway wood at the Hero World Challenge yesterday.

The Tiger updates have been coming frequently in the past week, and this seems to be another significant development, especially with rumors circulating around his potential involvement in this month’s PNC Championship.

Woods seemed to downplay the idea of him being able to compete with the world’s best again, but perhaps he was just tempering expectations for his latest comeback.

Will Tiger tee it up alongside Charlie for his comeback event? Let us know what you think!

‘This f—ing ripped shirt. Jesus!’ – McIlroy snaps at reporter after question on Dubai shirt incident

When journalists see a bite they usually go for it, and whilst there will no doubt be continual questions directed at Tiger Woods after the recent press conference at his own Hero World Challenge, the small field of 20 were never going to get away with it if there was a story to clamp on to.

Cue Rory McIlroy after his recent ‘ripped shirt’ episode, something that perhaps was worth a minor comment at best in Rory’s view. The journalists present at the event didn’t see it that way though.

At yesterday’s presser, one reporter commented, ”Nice shirt, it’s in one piece” to receive the biting comeback from McIlroy: ”It is. Another joke you tried to make that’s not funny.”

Throughout the briefing, the world number 8 gave succinct thoughts on a variety of current issues, including his own form and the Saudi debate, before one more reporter tried their luck by asking what happened to the shirt.

”I went to the pro shop, bought a new one, threw that one in the trash. I mean, this f—ing ripped shirt. Jesus!”

Let’s hope that’s the end of RippedShirtGate, an episode that only heightened the respect many have for the dedication of the four-time Major winner, but one that clearly is generating plenty of interest from media members.

Ratings flop: Bryson vs Brooks fails to attract interest in least-viewed edition of ‘The Match’

Despite the public rows and insults, the ‘cartoon’ bravado, Instagram posts and supposed hate, television viewers were simply not interested in tuning in to the recent ‘grudge’ match between Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka.

As reported by Bunkered, the 12-hole matchplay that mimicked the 12 rounds of a boxing match, had Phil Mickelson as a star commentator and was plugged to death by TNT, but still less than 635,000 viewers tuned in, a hugely disappointing figure given the previous four episodes of the feature.

The idea became a ‘must’ watch when the inaugural episode featured Tiger Woods and Mickelson in November 2018, whilst each of the following three episodes have also received viewing figures of over 1 million.

At its height, The Match 2 was seen by 5.8million viewers, although that particular game was arranged in May 2020, the height of the COVID pandemic.

Whilst viewers were starved of almost any live sporting action at the time, it remains that a friendly jolly-up between Tiger and Peyton Manning, Phil and Tom Brady still saw nearly 10 times the viewers of a much more hyped game.

The Match 3 (July 2021) had a final figure of around 1.25 million and the recent final round of the CJ Cup, a run-of-the-mill PGA Tour event, also saw a higher Nielsen rating, the figure used to assess television size and composition.

In the end, of course, Koepka won well before the end, winning 4 & 3, and nobody really cared.
