How a significant putting change has helped Nelly Korda hit top form
Nelly Korda is in contention after day one of the KPMG Womens’ PGA Championship, just a week after dominating at the Meijer Classic.
That victory last week came after a disappointing performance at the U.S. Open, where Nelly shot 11-over over the opening two days to miss the cut.
That performance, however, sparked two significant changes for Nelly on the greens, and both are evidently working.
Following the missed cut at the U.S. Open, Nelly decided to putt left-hand-low, and after her opening round of 2-under this week, told media why her putting feels better now.
“I just feel like left hand low, my shoulders are way more square. I feel like, when I was conventional, I really lifted my left shoulder higher, and when I was under pressure, I feel like I stopped using my shoulders as much. So for me, it’s more just posture.”
The younger Korda sister also switched putters following the U.S. Open, dropping her Scotty Cameron Select Concept 2 Prototype (GSS insert) traditional blade for a Scotty Special Select Squareback 2.
Nelly has used the left-hand-low technique in the past but was under no illusions as to how difficult it is to make a change such as this mid-season, saying: “It’s a hard change, especially in tournaments under pressure. You’ve really got to commit to it. So it’s a big change.”
The 22-year-old tees off for her second round of the Womens’ PGA Championship today at 1.22 PM ET live on Golf Channel.

I also putt left hand low but it took a while, especially to figure out what to do with the left. I wrap the other 3 fingers loosely around the shaft but I put my index finger on the shaft pointing down. It provides great feel as the pointer to keep the shaft straight where I am aiming.
