‘Clowns’ – Tour pro hits out at fans saying Jon Rahm won the Memorial

Published

on

Jon Rahm’s withdrawal at the Memorial due to a positive Covid-19 test provoked a strong reaction from golf fans at the weekend, with many upset with how the situation was handled.

Some fans on social media even wanted the winner’s trophy handed to Rahm, who held a 6-shot lead at the time of his WD, and that take elicited a very strong response from Dylan Frittelli.

Following Patrick Cantlay’s win on Sunday evening, Frittelli took to social media where he branded those fans as “clowns” and before this week’s Palmetto Championship explained why.

“I described some people as clowns, talking about how Jon Rahm actually won this tournament, and it’s simply not true. Patrick Cantlay is the winner of the tournament. End of story.”

The South African added how each player on Tour has signed up to play by the rules and that it’s foolish to believe that any player would be exempt from those rules.

“I think it’s quite silly for people to go out there and think you can do something, whether it’s play professional golf, play another sport or work in business and not follow the rules. We’ve signed up to play by the rules.

If Jon Rahm picked his ball up, walked over the hole and dropped it next to it and tapped it in, I think a lot of people would be unhappy that he broke a rule.”

I’m with Dylan on this one, awful for Rahm, but he didn’t win. But social-media gonna social-media. Hopefully he comes back and wins the next one.

If you do your homework, the vaccine is a protein, proteins don’t stop virus, that’s why people still get it and why people are having reactions to shot. 99% survival rate, most who have died from obesity. When has the government ever promoted a shot so vigorously? Never

I’m in Ohio and the mask mandate has been lifted, so this was BS that he was removed in a city where a political mask wasn’t even needed. Heck, the doctors get paid more to report someone as covid. This is political and everyone knows it!

    Rahm wasn’t vaccinated.

If I risked being walked out of my office in the middle of my work day and losing a $1M+ bonus every week for testing positive for COVID, I damn sure would be doing everything possible not to test positive, including getting vaccinated.

You do realize people that get vaccinated can still get covid???????? Another vaccine supporter that has no idea what he is talking about.

The pga rules are any player who has been vaccinated (two times) and after 14 days, they dont need to follow the protocol Rahm went through because he never got vaccinated.

He not only endangered fellow players, spectators, his wife and infant
and overseas relatives who he knew were coming to visit within a week of Memorial.

Clearly he has a character issue. He has none.

You realize you can still get Covid even with the vax? So what if he had the vax, still got Covid, didn’t report it b/c the rules didn’t require it, then others around him got Covid because he never reported and quarantined?

            Jun 14, 2021 at 6:01 pm

You do realize that is not how the pga tour protocol works, right? If you are vaccinated you don’t get tested

      • benseattle

        Jun 10, 2021 at 8:25 pm

Sure thing, “doctor,” but the facts are that the rate of new COVID cases nationwide is PLUMMETING simply because more and more Americans are smart enough to understand that the vaccines are working. You can tout the tiny, infinitesimal number of vaccinated individuals who were later infected but if that’s your best argument, you’re backing a loser. (What a coincidence.)

Bottom line: Rahm blew it. All on his own.

Ding, ding, ding, tell him what he’s won. In other news from an alternate universe, the rest of the field goes on strike, refusing to tee it up for round 4 without Rahm.

A seasonal virus doesn’t plummet because people get Vax’d. It plummets because of the time of year. Hence the use of the word seasonal. 2020, was no different. It plummeted in the summer and comes into effect again late fall(during colder months). The Only virus that has the ability to live in summer is the Rhino virus (not Rino). If a Vax stopped you from getting this virus then the 7 NY Yankee players who got Vax’d over a month ago only to test positive later would be true, but it isn’t. But a rule is a rule no matter how idiotic it is. I’d like to know if Rahm was infected and he shook hands with his playing partners after the round including Caddies why wasn’t there anything said about those guys being “contact traced”? We’re they tested after the event because according to the so called experts the virus is quite contagious.

Well said. It’s a quite egregious penalty for something we should have a better grasp of at this point. But instead, the PGA Tour has taken the stance of exempting people who made a personal health decision about an experimental “vaccine”. I’m surprised a lawyer hasn’t gotten to Rahm about it, no matter what BS they made him sign. Those never stand up when it comes down to it in court.

The most ‘Instagrammed’ golf courses in the world

Published

on

The Swilken Burn, Hogan, Nelson and Sarazen bridges, ‘that’ Van De Velde 18th at The Open, just some of the millions of sights that are perfectly captured in time by golf professional and amateur photographers alike, but what are the most picturesque?

To answer that, and much more. money.co.uk issued a report in October that offered their comprehensive guide to the ‘ultimate’ course, whether that be based on green fees, most popular during the pandemic or indeed the ‘most Instagrammed’.

Analyzing the hashtag #golf, the publication also recorded relevant posts from TikTok and came up with some incredible numbers.

Instagram posts featuring the above tag numbered 28.5 million, whilst the increasingly popular snap video site numbered 15.3 billion views with the reference ‘golf’. Not all, of course, about the scenery, but still demonstrating the universal appeal of the game we all love and popularity during the recent months of the pandemic.

Leading the way and, therefore, potentially the most popular and photographed was TPC Sawgrass, home of The Players championship. No doubt the par-three 17th hole contributed much to the 50,168 Insta posts that saw the Ponte Vedra course record some 17,500 posts ahead of Bandon Dunes and Pebble Beach.

2025 Ryder Cup venue, Bethpage Black, receives around 21,000 posts whist the UK isn’t left out, with St. Andrews predictably heading the way in sixth place (15,065 posts) ahead of Royal Portrush (7th) and Royal Birkdale in ninth with 10,160 references.

With the host of the 2021 PGA Championship, Kiawah Island, bringing up the top-10, the total amount of posts for these 10 courses alone was around 220,000, some 8,000 less than the amount of check-ins on Facebook for Sawgrass alone.

Interestingly, the report lists The Stadium Course as costing circa £400 per green fee, some £350 more than the maybe more public-friendly Bethpage Black. Whether that means golf folk are prepared to pay more to experience a ‘more scenic’ track is open to interpretation.

Make yours by viewing the report at Money.co.uk.

Tiger hitting fairway woods on range at Hero fuels PNC Championship entry speculation

Published

on

To go alongside his first media briefing since his car accident back in February, Tiger Woods was spotted taking full swings with a fairway wood at the Hero World Challenge yesterday.

The Tiger updates have been coming frequently in the past week, and this seems to be another significant development, especially with rumors circulating around his potential involvement in this month’s PNC Championship.

Woods seemed to downplay the idea of him being able to compete with the world’s best again, but perhaps he was just tempering expectations for his latest comeback.

Will Tiger tee it up alongside Charlie for his comeback event? Let us know what you think!

‘This f—ing ripped shirt. Jesus!’ – McIlroy snaps at reporter after question on Dubai shirt incident

Published

on

When journalists see a bite they usually go for it, and whilst there will no doubt be continual questions directed at Tiger Woods after the recent press conference at his own Hero World Challenge, the small field of 20 were never going to get away with it if there was a story to clamp on to.

Cue Rory McIlroy after his recent ‘ripped shirt’ episode, something that perhaps was worth a minor comment at best in Rory’s view. The journalists present at the event didn’t see it that way though.

At yesterday’s presser, one reporter commented, ”Nice shirt, it’s in one piece” to receive the biting comeback from McIlroy: ”It is. Another joke you tried to make that’s not funny.”

Throughout the briefing, the world number 8 gave succinct thoughts on a variety of current issues, including his own form and the Saudi debate, before one more reporter tried their luck by asking what happened to the shirt.

”I went to the pro shop, bought a new one, threw that one in the trash. I mean, this f—ing ripped shirt. Jesus!”

Let’s hope that’s the end of RippedShirtGate, an episode that only heightened the respect many have for the dedication of the four-time Major winner, but one that clearly is generating plenty of interest from media members.
