Young ‘Tigress’ honoring Woods with custom Jordan shoe at ANWA

Amari Avery, a 17-year-old from Riverside, California, has been waiting two years to compete in the Augusta National Women’s Amateur and finally gets the chance to do so this week
Avery, who was nicknamed ‘Tigress’ by her father, won the California Women’s Amateur in 2019 and will play college golf at USC in the fall of 2022. She’s also a massive Tiger Woods fan and cites the 15-time major champion as the reason she got into golf.
To commemorate the occasion and to serve as inspiration, the 17-year-old will be wearing a pair of Jordan golf shoes with a custom Tiger tribute.
Inside the shoe is a picture of Tiger’s iconic fist pump from 2019, as well as a listing of the years in which he won his five Masters titles at Augusta National.
In a New York Times article by Brendan Porath from earlier this week, Avery said about her appearance at Augusta Nationa:
“It’s definitely going to be slightly overwhelming. But I think that me just being there could be inspiring for girls like me. I’m going to be out there to play for myself and just show people that people like me can be out there, we can be at that high level and play.”
Here’s a video of all the similarities Avery has in common with Tiger, including the same birthday and being born in the same county:

With so much emphasis put on major championships, it’s not just the professional golfers that face a pressure-packed build-up to the events—so do many designers working behind the scenes to create commemorative bags like the ones being used by Callaway staffers this week at the ANA Inspiration on the LPGA Tour.
Callaway debuted the bag on their Instagram page with Morgan Pressel and you can check out the video below.

Brooks Koepka gets engaged to Jena Sims; Signs of Masters hope?

Brooks Koepka is now engaged to Jena Sims after the couple announced the news on their social media sites on Thursday.
The two began dating in 2017, and Sims, who has been prominent at tournaments involving Brooks since then, revealed the engagement news with the caption: “Forever is no joke.”

Doubt remains over Koepka’s involvement at next week’s Masters, but there has been the odd sighting of optimism for Brooks’ legion of fans besides the seemingly free movement of the 4-time major champ in Sims’ photos posted yesterday.
The Masters website removed Tiger Woods from their player list for 2021, but Koepka remains in said list, and according to Rich Lerner at Golf Channel, the 30-year-old was taking full swings at Riviera CC this week.
Could a newly engaged Koepka still tee it up at Augusta?

Ian Poulter switches to long putter and claw grip…but all is not as it seems

Ian Poulter was in his element on Thursday, with the Englishman using Instagram to pull off a slick April Fools Joke.
The 45-year-old posted a video of himself practising with a belly putter and a claw grip in preparation for next week’s Masters tournament with the caption:
“I’ve been testing this for a while and it’s simply more consistent. Putting is key at the Masters. So if you can’t beat them join them…”

While some posters fell for the prank, the pros were quick to see through Poulter’s scheming:
- Bryson DeChambeau: “Uh oh, is this one of those April… you know….”
- Tyrrell Hatton: “Just need a greens book now.”
- Justin Thomas: “Better get it in fast before it’s banned!”
It wouldn’t have been a true April Fools Day without a little something from the Postman!
