Nick Faldo takes ‘unnecessary’ swipe at Rickie Fowler on social media

Published

on

Rickie Fowler’s 2021 hasn’t begun as he’d hoped, with just one top-20 finish in five starts leaving him now sitting 65th in the Official World Golf Rankings.

As an appearance at the 2021 Masters event looks more and more unlikely, the 32-year-old opened up on his frustrations with his game and himself, telling reporters before this week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational:

“It’s very frustrating. It’s made it at times tough between Joe and I on the course. We have a great relationship, we have known each other for a long time, but when I’m out there, and I’m not hitting shots that I’m visualizing and seeing, it’s hard.

It’s tough for all of us that are involved, from my caddie, to my wife—she’s having to deal with me at home.”

In a strange twist, Fowler’s openness about his frustration has led to the 6-time major champ, now turned golf analyst Nick Faldo taking a swipe at the Californian.

In a tweet responding to Fowler’s words in an article on Golf Digest, Faldo sarcastically posted: “Good news is if he misses the Masters he can shoot another six commercials that week!”

Faldo’s tweet has split users on the social media site, with some people describing the comments as “unnecessary” and “lacking respect”, while others have interpreted the statement as playful ribbing.

However, Faldo then doubled down on his take after receiving criticism from some golf fans, making reference to his three green jacket victories – with Fowler still searching for his maiden major win.

With Rickie needing to crack the top-50 in the world to qualify for the Masters, maybe Faldo’s comment will spark the revival needed, starting this week at Bay Hill.

Faldo has won more. It’s justified

Faldo has more experience of winning than Fowler so perhaps it’s warranted

Its why those people got the label, “chirpers”
They think that because they have a brain that thinks, compulsively
it is of interest to others….NOT

I’d suggest Faldo was giving Fowler a bit of a beat down to motivate him… let’s see..

Fowler is overrated, always has, always will be. Truth hurts sometimes.

He also incited a media lynch mob for Reed who was proven to have not broken the rules, and followed procedure for play at the Farmers. And he’s clickbaiting everyone in support of his next raise.

Reed was not proven to have not broken the rules. He followed proper procedures IF he legitimately believed his ball may have been plugged. We still have no way of knowing for certain whether that was the case because he removed the ball from where it lied before anyone else could see it. So while there is no proof that he broke any rules, neither is there conclusive proof that he didn’t.

Ask Faldo why he didn’t pick Monty for The Ryder Cup when he was Captain. Afraid Monty would break Faldo’s Ryder Cup record?????????????

yes the one-time winner of a PGA Major tournament in the modern era is likely jealous of a guy that is still making money (and shooting commercials) every week… faldo is an ignorant relic just like most of these crusty golf commentators.. it is very quite obvious that faldo is jealous of young athletic person.. just like every single one of you old hacks…

Dude you are seriously nuts. You don’t think Faldo is making $$? You know how much he gets paid on the weekend coverages? Guys was a stud and very up tight as a player but I think he is awesome and has a ton of insight. He has every right to rib anyone he wants.

Trust me buddy, Faldo would much rather have been in “six commercials per week” than have to take a job in golf media after his playing career.

How about you wake up a little bit?

It’s okay to have ignorant opinions. I don’t expect the golfing crowd to have worldly knowledge. Stay inside your own little bubble, you’ll be fine there in your own safe space

You obviously can’t talk to Gianni, his opinions are the only ones that matter, and the rest of us are just blind to the truth.

Ian Poulter has a very interesting idea to ‘fix’ the distance conundrum

Published

on

The distance debate in golf is likely to intensify this week as players get ready to tackle the 7,876 yard Kiawah Island for the year’s second major.

Last week, it was bombs away at the new PGA Tour stop TPC Craig Ranch, which saw regular drives of over 340-yards from the longest hitters in the game.

On the 10th hole, Bryson DeChambeau carried a drive 368 yards, and RTE journalist Greg Allen took to Twitter, where he said: “Without rollback, 8000+yard plus tour courses are inevitable. More real estate, longer rounds.”

This prompted a response from Ian Poulter, who had an interesting ‘fix’ to curb distance in the game, where he explained: “Minimum 9 degree loft fixes most of this instantly. But long will always be long.”

Bryson DeChambeau has played a driver with lofts of both 7.5 and 5.5 degrees this year, the reason being that the lower loft driver heads can help to produce more ball speed.

WRXers, what do you think about Ian Poulter’s fix? Let us know in the comments.
