PGA Tour pro slammed on social media for not wearing Tiger red at WGC-Workday

Following Tiger Woods’ near fatal crash last week, many of his peers decided to pay tribute and show their support to Tiger by wearing red and black during the final round of the WGC-Workday.

Max Homa, however, went a different route, and explained his reasoning behind the deicison on Twitter, saying:

“I unfortunately didn’t pack any red and black for this road trip (obviously didn’t know the news til arriving), so I will try and pay my respects to TW tomorrow with some really great final round”

Homa was subsequently slammed by many golf fans. Here’s a look at the reaction of some:

Following the reaction, Homa said that he is “contractually obligated to wear clothes with certain logos on them”, before stating:

“I mean this with zero hyperbole, this the weirdest thing I’ve experienced on Twitter lol I love Tiger more than u guys. Promise. Listen to an interview from last week. Red and black tomorrow doesn’t prove that. A lifelong attempt to mimic his approach to the game of golf does.”

It’s worth nothing that Homa was not the only player on Sunday who decided not to wear red and black on the course.

Enough of the Tiger worship. Sure, he was a great golfer, but his off course antics require nothing more. The guy was under the influence of opiates for back surgery. 85mph! Come on man, let him fade away. There are some really good golfers to watch rather than more infatuation of a flawed individual.

its obvious social media is the gutter and opinions are trash. i’m more concerned that this author and website saw this as an article fitting of the site. its borderline clickbait.

more and this trash and i’ll stick to the forums and ignore the dumb articles

Anyone that believes Twitter is a forum to bash golf professionals needs to have their head examined especially when numerous other pros were not wearing red.
Mr Homa is an excellent example of golf behavior. He isn’t out there abusing his caddy, cussing, and tossing clubs. Two’s current predicament is of his own making
and clearly shows the folly of speeding and is not an example for our youth. Thank God that there was not anyone coming in the opposite lane when he crossed over or there would been a lot more carnage.

Max Homa likely doesn’t care what the brainless Twitter mob thinks, and neither do I.

Twitter = forum for the chronically self-involved.

Those people on twitter clearly don’t understand the concept of sponsors. Max has to wear a shirt with his sponsors on it or else it would be a breach of contract. That’s why he can’t just go out and buy a red shirt from Target or Walmart…

I know Phil bought a red shirt from a store, but if you looked carefully, he wore a black sweater over the red shirt because he had an obligation to his sponsors.

I would be surprised if ANYONE on twitter would wear a sweater on a hot sunny day in Florida…

    • NotthatDoctor

      Mar 5, 2021 at 4:49 pm

He actually wore the sweater because the shirt was for the “other” Arizona college, and he didn’t want the logo showing.

Homa absolutely could have gone out and bought a shirt to wear for the day and his sponsor would have allowed it. That being said, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with not wearing a red shirt in his position.

Nobody should feel like they have to wear red and black in honor of Tiger. A lot of the top name pga tour pros didn’t wear the colors like DJ and Adam Scott for example. People always make a big deal out of nothing especially on social media. Nothing to see here…….move along.

People are so mis-informed, surely they have some idea of what happens on tour???
He did not have a red and black kit because he had not packed it. That person (I was going to use other word) who said is there no Target or Big Mart around has got no idea. They are paid millions to wear company logos and hats and if they don’t wear them they are fined heavily or lose the contract. STOP being keyboard warriors and find out info first. Every single person who has slammed has not idea. Also they have to wear certain brands too,so cannot just pop into Target and get logo sewed on either. WAKE UP peeps. He also said he did not have – he did not say he was not going to wear.

plus if you look at most of the players who wore the red/black on sunday, they were mostly nike athletes who nike forbids from having any sponsors on their person. much easier to ship them a red shirt in time for sunday.

    Mar 3, 2021 at 1:34 pm

Take each pro who did not wear a red shirt. Herd them onto the 18th green at Bay Hill, strip them buck naked and let every pro who did wear red last week, have one shot from 150 yards.

If your taking pain killers and sleeping pills for insomnia you shouldn’t be driving…they keep letting him get away with it because he’s a billionaire! Hard to be woke when your taking medication!

Years ago (after the death of Payne Stewart), there was a golf tournament, and most players wore knickers one day, in honor of Payne Stewart. As I recall, Tiger was one of the few players who “did not” honor Payne, by wearing knickers.

Wearing red is such superficial “support”. It’s like the NFL wearing pink in October. Symbolism over substance. It’s not as easy as just “going to Walmart” to buy a red shirt. Players have corporate sponsorship deals and have to wear their logos. A lot of those Twitter commenters, like Tiger, were asleep at the wheel.

Don’t these twits know that these guys are under contract to wear apparel with the contracted embroidery and patches? He had to order the red shirt with the embroidery. Collin Morikawa ordered it and it got lost in the mail. That’s why he didn’t wear it. There was enough red and black out there.

    • SMB

Bryson DeChambeau reveals the problem he has at Augusta National

Bryson DeChambeau’s challenge at this year’s Masters tournament got off to a poor start with an opening round of 76 to put Bryson behind the 8-ball going into Friday’s round.

The 27-year-old never looked comfortable all day at Augusta National, and following his opening round, DeChambeau revealed his main issue at the course:

“I need to understand how the ball flies off of downhill slopes into uphill greens, and conversely uphill slopes into downhill greens, and all of the above. We just can’t calculate and adjust the numbers very well, and the wind is pretty tricky out here. The greens are bouncing pretty hard, and that’s what happened.”

Bryson told the media that the issue is only here at Augusta, while confirming that the new driver would stay in the bag for today’s second round.

On what he needs to do to play well here, DeChambeau highlighted every aspect of his game and how he also needs to begin adjusting to the difference in the speed of the practice green to the actual greens at the event.

“You’ve got to have every aspect. You’ve got to iron it well. You’ve got to putt it well. There are some greens that got really, really quick, looked pretty brown. We just couldn’t adjust for it. The practice green is completely different than the golf course, and that was something that I know, but I just didn’t adjust for.”

Abraham Ancer left ‘gutted’ after being assessed 2 stroke penalty at the Masters

Abraham Ancer is competing in his second Masters this week and believed he had got himself off to a steady start with a round of 73.

However, 73 soon turned into a round of 75 after Ancer had unknowingly touched the sand before making his third stroke from the greenside bunker on 15.

After signing his scorecard, video evidence was reviewed by the Masters Competition Committee regarding a potential breach of Rule 12.2b (1), which states that “touching sand in a bunker right behind the ball results in a penalty” – and Ancer was handed a two stroke penalty.

On social media, Ancer posted the video of the incident along with the following statement:

“I was just informed that I have been assessed a 2 stroke penalty for unintentionally grazing the sand in my backswing on hole 15. While I’m gutted, I can’t wait to get after it tomorrow.”

Per Jim Hyler Jr., chairman of the Competitions Committee, Ancer was given the penalty as the touching of the sand was visible to the naked eye.
