Nike clubs continue to see action on Tour
Even after leaving the hardgoods equipment game behind, Nike clubs continue to get a lot of play from recreational players, all the way up to golfers on the PGA Tour. This week at the Vivint Houston Open at Memorial Park, we spotted a number of clubs from Nike in the bags of players. In the used club market, a lot of nostalgia remains for Nike Golf gear, and it appears that continues to extend to players at the highest level.
What is interesting to note is although Nike is headquartered in Beaverton Oregon, Nike Golf was founded and operated from day one in Fort Worth, Texas, only a few hours from Houston up the i45, so there is a Texas connection.
Tony Finau – Nike Vapor Fly long iron
Tony is a player who went to Ping clubs after Nike stopped, but the one club that continues to make its way into his bag on occasion is his old Nike Vapor Fly long iron. It could be that he’s working on something, or the more likely scenario is heading into the Masters next week, this long iron is a club he is extremely comfortable with and has some shots around Augusta in mind.
Kevin Chappell – Nike VR Pro Combo 4-iron
We recently spoke with Kevin Chappell’s personal club-fitter Tim Briand about his bag, and even though he recently switched out most of his clubs since he became a True Spec golf ambassador, the one club that continues to remain in his bag is his old Nike Pro Combo 4-iron.
Maverick McNealy – VR Pro Blades
When it comes to blade irons, the Nike VR Pro blades were the club of choice for many of Nike’s staffers, including Tiger Woods, but the other player that continues to keep them in the bag in Maverick McNealy. It’s hard to argue with their pedigree, let’s just hope he has a few extra backup sets.
Scottie Scheffler – VR Pro Ltd. Edition 3 wood
If we’re being honest, the one weak spot in the Nike line of clubs was often metal woods, but the fixed hosel models including Scottie’s VR Pro limited edition had a lot of pop, and you don’t fix, what’s not broken.
Brooks Koepka – Nike Vapor Fly 3-iron
Just like a perfect pair of jeans, or that hoodie that just feels right when you put it on, Brooks Koepka continues to go back to his Nike Vapor Fly Pro – iron even after taking it out of the bag on multiple occasions.
Whatever the team at Nike did to produce these Vapor Fly long irons, they must have included some type of magic “long iron dust” because to see more than one golfer keep it in play really says something about their performance.

Photos from the 2024 PGA Championship
GolfWRX is on site this week at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, for the PGA Championship.
While we see fewer equipment changes and new gear seeding at major championships, we get a look at custom gear and looks into the bags of players we rarely see, which is just as exciting. In the case of the PGA Championship, this means a look at the gear some of the PGA Professionals who qualified for the tournament will be gaming, and LIV players, such as Jon Rahm and Patrick Reed.
Check out links to all our albums from Valhalla below and check back throughout the week as we continue to update.

I still use a custom vapour driver, and I love the 5 wood and hybrid I play. Nike nailed it with the diamana shafts as well. They play great for us high speed guys.

Still have a full set of the vapor fly pros in very solid shape in the basement. May have to go back to them someday, haven’t had a solid year with the irons since I moved on
