Cam Smith claims his friendship with Patrick Reed is finished as tensions rise at Presidents Cup

Emotions are running high at this week’s Presidents Cup, and Cameron Smith has continued his back and forth with Patrick Reed ahead of the opening day from Royal Melbourne, claiming that their friendship is now a thing of the past.
The Australian accused Reed of cheating at last week’s Hero Challenge, an accusation Reed took umbrage with, who dismissed those claims from the 26-year-old on Monday.
Speaking to the media at this week’s Presidents Cup, Smith described how tensions are reaching boiling point down under after both men’s disagreement on the incident, per the AFP.
“I’m sure he didn’t like it. I think there is a little bit of tension there. I’ve looked at Patrick a couple times but he hasn’t looked back. I’m looking forward to the weekend.”
But don’t expect Smith to make the first move in putting to bed their current quarrel, who added that he wouldn’t be going out of his way to speak to Reed this week, and how their friendship has disintegrated over the dispute which began last weekend.
“I definitely won’t go out of my way. I think our friendship, I guess, is not quite there anymore. I’m here to do a job for Ernie and that’s all I’m focusing on. I think it’s case of team versus team, what’s right and what’s wrong.”

‘3 times you’ve asked the same question’ – Mickelson shuts down reporter at The Open

One of the biggest stories in the lead-up to the 150th Open Championship was Phil Mickelson’s decision to not attend the traditional champions dinner prior to the event.
During his pre-tournament press conference, Phil answered some questions that gave us a better idea of why that was the case.
“The R&A contacted me a couple weeks before and said, ‘Look, we don’t think it’s a great idea you go, but if you want to, you can,” Mickelson told reporters after beginning his latest Open challenge with a level-par 72.
“I just didn’t want to make a big deal about it, so I said, ‘fine.’ We both kind of agreed that it would be best if I didn’t.”
When Mickelson was asked if he was sad to be in such a position, the 52-year-old said: “No, no. Not at all. I think that I couldn’t be more excited and ecstatic with where I’m at.”
“I love the events. I get to have golf in my life and competitive golf in my life on a scale that is fun, exciting, different, and lets me play and compete but still do the things outside that I want to do.”
When he was pushed further into giving an answer to the question of how he felt missing out on the champions dinner, Mickelson snapped: “Let it go, dude. Let it go. That’s three times you’ve asked the same question.”
“I don’t know what to tell you. I couldn’t be happier.”
Mickelson started his Open Championship with an even-par 72 on Thursday.

Report: LIV golfers facing potential ban from all majors from 2023

According to a report from The Daily Mail, players who’ve joined LIV Golf are facing a potential ban from all four majors next year.
Prior to the first round at The Open Championship, Martin Slumbers, chief executive of the R&A said that his governing body would ‘review our exemptions and qualifications criteria for the Open’.
The report speculates that one of the possibilities currently being considered is the exclusion of players suspended from one of the traditional tours.
All of the LIV Golf defectors are suspended from the PGA Tour, but the PGA Tour suspensions are currently reviewed legally, which will likely have an impact on whether the major championships can follow suit with suspensions.

Ian Poulter offers peculiar post-round response to Open Championship boos

The Open got underway early Thursday morning, with Ian Poulter one of the first to tee off at the 150th edition of the event at the Home of Golf.
In a surprising twist, the now LIV golfer was introduced to some audible booing and then proceeded to hit a snap hook that was fortunate to stay in bounds.

— Matt Bellner (@MattBellner) July 14, 2022
Despite the rocky start, Poulter produced a fine performance on day one at St Andrews, firing a round of 3 under par.
Following his round, the Englishman spoke to the media, and when the subject of the opening tee shot boos came up, Poulter denied hearing them.
“Didn’t hear one. I actually thought I had a great reception on the first tee, to be honest. All I heard was clapping.”
In addition, Poulter was asked to speak on the comments made earlier this week from Tiger Woods, who was heavily critical of the LIV golfers, but the 46-year-old refused to get drawn in: “I purposely haven’t looked at all [at the comments]. So I don’t want to know.”
As for a challenge at this week’s Open, doing “something special” is very much on Poulter’s mind.
“I would love to be able to do something special on Sunday as we all, everybody competing in this 150th Open dream of holding that Claret Jug. It goes without saying that I’d love to be able to do that.”

Cameron smith is an instigator. He took the situation with Reed and tried to turn it into something to use against the entire US team.
Reminds me of a spoiled snot nosed kid.

to even have a course like that is stupid…either make it a bunker or not….if it is not a bunker, you can ground your club. and when you have acres of soft sand like a bunker, how can you ground your club and NOT move sand. dumb design.

This misses by a mile.
It wasn’t the status of the area of play–whether or not it was a penalty area. The issue is that he improved his lie with his practice swings–something that is not allowed ANYWHERE on the course.
Did you not even review the event?
