Edoardo Molinari exposes slow play culprits by publishing European Tour’s list of violators
The issue of slow play in the game of golf came to the forefront once again this weekend, culminating in the European Tour’s list of slow play offenders being revealed on social media.
Three-time winner on the European Tour, Edoardo Molinari, took to Twitter to vent his frustration after his second round at last week’s Hassan II Golf Trophy in Morrocco. The Italian’s round took five and a half hours to complete, and it put the wheels in motion for a series of posts that railed against one of the most prominent issues in golf.
It’s time that professional golf does something serious for slow play…5h30min to play 18 holes on a golf course without rough is just too long…way too long! #stopslowplay

Surprised by the traction that the above tweet garnered, Molinari then announced that should the tweet receive 1k retweets; he would publish the up to date list of players being timed and fined on the European Tour.
I didn’t think I was going to cause such a debate with this tweet, however…if the above tweet about slow play gets 1,000 retweets I’ll post the updated list of players being timed and fined on the @EuropeanTour in 2019 as of last Monday!#stopslowplay
— Edoardo Molinari (@DodoMolinari) April 27, 2019
The list, which is shared amongst Tour players but not made public, was then posted by Molinari, and it revealed that three players had received fines for slow play in 2019 ( Adrian Otaegui, Louis Oosthuizen and Erik Van Rooyen ), a plethora of players had been timed on more than one occasion, but none had received a stroke penalty.
As promised…list of timings as of April 22nd. Next updates list will come out at the end of June!
There are a few usual suspects and a few surprises.
Please retweet and share to speed things up!#stopslowplay pic.twitter.com/VpR65M4Xrb— Edoardo Molinari (@DodoMolinari) April 27, 2019
Do you feel that Molinari was right to publish the European Tour’s slow play offenders list, and do you think his actions will have any effect on the issue, WRXers?

In professional golf, this will be an ongoing never ending debate.
The argument nearly always circles back to “these guys are pros doing this to make a living”. With that the argument dies right there because no one wants to take it a step further.
So, it’s 5 plus hour rounds for the foreseeable future.

Was he “right”? If he signed some type of agreement to keep the list private he violated that agreement so no, he wasn’t “right”.
Will it work to embarrass the tour and will it be effective in reducing slow play? Remains to be seen but I suspect it might be a good first step in that process.

Was he right? Well he may get in trouble with the Tour, which will have stern words with him in secret.
But yes of course he’s right. The slow pokes are an absolute disgrace and neither tour is doing anything about it so needs must.
