Callaway adds Mack Daddy 4 Raw to wedge lineup
Callaway’s Mack Daddy 4 wedges are now available in a raw finish. The company says the non-glare finish is preferred by many of the world’s best players, and we can attest to that as we spot plenty in the bags of Tour pros weekly.
It’s fitting that Callaway would offer the MD4 in a raw finish, since its development was so heavily influenced by Tour pro input.
Reviewing the technical features of the Mack Daddy 4, Callaway’s latest wedge offering includes Groove-in-Groove Technology for spin-boosting benefits. The main grooves are saw-cut and horizontal milled to precise tolerances. The lower lofted wedges (52 and below) feature a 20D groove for consistent spin on fuller shots, while the higher lofted wedges (54 and above) feature an aggressive 5D groove for maximum control out of the rough and around the green.
The Mack Daddy 4 also feature Micro-Positive surface roughness: raised micro-ridges milled into the flat parts of the face to enhance spin.
And here’s a refresher on the MD4’s grind options.
- C Grind: Increased relief, especially at the heel, making it easier to play shots with the face open. Ideal for medium-to-shallow attack angles and/or firm course conditions. 8 bounce.
- S Grind: Medium-width sole with slight chamfer at the back and moderate heel relief to keep the leading edge low through impact, promoting solid contact on open-faced shots. 10 bounce.
- X Grind: The newest grind features a narrow, high-bounce crescent sole, with the low point near the front. Excellent for moderate-to-steep attack angles and medium-to soft course conditions. 12 bounce.
Callaway offers 15 different loft-bounce options available in the Raw Finish. S-Grind: 50, 52, 54, 56, 58, 60 C-Grind: 54, 56, 58, 60, 62 X-Grind: 54, 56, 58, 60. MSRP: $149.99. Custom order only.
