They add a weight when the shaft length is shorter than standard. I have a 44′ Epic and i found out they do this to keep the feel of the weight in the head. The thing i noticed is that it launches higher and imparts a lot more spin. My guess is that the lead tape reduces some of the spin by moving weight closer to the face.
