Costco Kirkland Signature Golf Balls Back in Stores

Published

on

When golfers everywhere were distracted with the start of The Masters, Costco was busy stocking shelves with golf’s most controversial golf ball, the Kirkland Signature. On Thursday morning in Costco’s Livonia, Mich., location, we spotted Costco’s Kirkland Signature Tour Performance golf balls being sold at the price of $29.99 for two dozen.

Kirkland_Signature_Costco_2017_2

After appearing on the USGA golf ball conforming list in early March, it seemed that the release of a new “Kirkland Signature Performance One” golf ball was inevitable. That speculation seems to have been proven false, at least for now. The golf balls we photographed have the same sidestamp and markings as the original Tour Performance ball, indicating that they use the same construction.

The only difference we found between the original “K Sigs” and the new golf balls we photographed is the packaging. The sleeves we spotted use a blue color around the Kirkland Signature logo that was black in the original release.

Kirkland_Signature_Costco_2017

According a Costco representative, the golf balls are currently available at select locations around the country. On a related note, Costco has since filed a complaint against Acushnet — Titleist’s umbrella company — in United States Federal Court where it’s seeking declaratory judgement.

97% of all golfers worldwide cannot take advantage of these high performance balls because their impact dynamics are faulty. They could play any cheap golf ball but will buy a ProV or Kirkland for status and to salve their neurotic angst… 😛

I am having zero luck in Canada finding these balls in Costco stores!. I have been to at least 10 different Costco locations hoping to find these on the shelf, and nada… zip!. It amazes me that Costco haven’t restocked faster with the crazy demand for it.

I think it is a shame that Costco does not offer the ball online. It can only be a deliberate act meant to create higher demand. I was excited to try the ball but will not simply based on principle and what I see as unfair marketing practice by Costco.

I’ve bought them online before, but they sold out really quickly. Went back a week later to order two more boxes and they were already sold out.

I wonder if it is true that he South Korea company that made the ball lost it’s contract to make Taylormade balls for the Asian market??? If true they will have plenty of time to make Kirkland balls…..

I’m honestly laughing at some of these comments. People going this insane over this ball, when there are so many other options out there that not only are in stock, but are available now, without all the time and money wasted calling and driving all over just to get a ball that will probably be sold out in an hour or two. MGGolf make a ProV1 type ball for $20 a dozen. It’s no secret, and they are always in stock, and I don’t have to drive anywhere to get them. Best turnaround time for orders of any company. Order on a Monday; have it in the mail on Wednesday. But you guys carry on with the stupidity.

No kidding, driving around everywhere and making phone calls. I can go to Dick’s and get some Srixon Trispeed Tour Balls for as low as $12 a dozen with promotions and coupons and they are legit, I’ll check the MGGOLF ball out now.

Called my local Costco about these balls. Having worked there, I was confident that I would get an honest response. They told me the balls had been pulled off the floor due a lawsuit (I assume with Acushnet). I find that interesting as other posters said they were able to buy the balls.

Spoke to a Costco employee at the store featured in this article. He stated they sold out within two hours. Five box limit per customer with limited supply equals little chance of scoring any unless you where in the right place at the right time.

For anyone that thinks Costco cannot keep supplying this level a ball for such a low price..Rockbottom golf was selling a 4 piece Urethane ball for $17.50 a dozen when buying two or more the other day called Callaway Hex Pro. I’m sure if Callaway can stamp their name on a 4 piece Urethane ball in the budget range Costco will have no problems finding a source…

What they had at Palm Desert, CA COSTCO were the same as their initial batch, IMHO I think this article should have been withheld until it was officially announced they were going to be available, all this caused was another case of hoarding by flippers to make money and left those who want to try them out again.

Titleist has been doing that every year for at least a few years now. Nothing new. People do know there are other brands besides Titleist and Ksig right? No way would I drive an hour or more just to pick up an overrun of some product that Costco has rebranded and repackaged. I’ll pay the little bit extra to get Vice golf balls delivered to my doorstep. Oh wait, I already did that and now I’m stocked for the whole season…

I checked with the rep in Torrance (Los Angeles county) CA, and she rattled off a few (3) stores in Southern California (mostly in the Palm Springs area) that had orders waiting for delivery. Then she told me that the Laguna Nagell Costco was stocked with one pallet. I immediately hit the freeway while getting the store on the phone to verify.

By the time I got there one hour after opening at 11 AM half the power was sold. Needless to say I got mine

Based on what we know about how the old ball came to be, is it safe to assume this might not be the exact same ball?

    • cgasucks

      Apr 6, 2017 at 11:20 am

Possibly. The original wave of those balls were actually overstocked inventory of TM balls that Nassau wanted to blow out through the back door. I’m a little surprised that they kept the same price point for the same amount of balls. There is a good chance it could be a slightly different ball that might not perform as well as the original batch. I hope I’m wrong.

      • john

        Apr 6, 2017 at 8:16 pm

nope, original ball was a rebranded Nassau Quattro, these are still rebranded Nassau Quattros. Love golf, the rumors spread so strongly it’s hilarious, they’re not Nassau’s they’re Miura’s!

A shocking Backstryke putter appearance + 7 interesting gear photos from the Zurich Classic

Published

on

Welcome to New Orleans, where TPC Louisiana plays host to the 2024 Zurich Classic. In between breakfast beignets and nightly Creole feasts, PGA Tour players are also competing in the unique two-man format at the Zurich this week.

Although the vibes in Nawlins are a bit lighter-fare than the recent back-to-back competitions the Masters and the RBC Heritage signature event), the gear news was no less serious this week.

We spotted some recent changes from Rory McIlroy, a very rare Odyssey Backstryke putter, dove into the bag of legendary New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, and spotted Patrick Cantlay continuing to test new equipment.

Get your beads out and crack your crawfish, because it’s time for an equipment rundown from The Big Easy (meaning New Orleans, of course, not Ernie Els).

See all of our photos from the Zurich Classic here

Rory’s on-and-off lob wedge

Since the end of 2023, Rory McIlroy has had an on-again, off-again relationship with a Titleist Vokey K-Grind lob wedge. In his last start, it was on, and the wedge is back in the bag again this week. We got a great look at the complicated grind that McIlroy uses.

A full look into McIlroy’s bag above also shows that he switched out of the TaylorMade BRNR Mini Copper that he used at the RBC Heritage, and he’s back into the Qi10 core 3-wood. As we discussed last week, McIlroy will likely keep the BRNR around as a course-specific club, trading it in and out for the 3-wood.

See Rory McIlroy’s full 2024 WITB from the Zurich here

Turning Back the clock

Unless Tommy Gainey is in the field, it’s unlikely you’ll ever see Odyssey’s Backstryke technology make an appearance on the PGA Tour.

But then, when you least expect it, Russ Cochran shows up.

For more than a decade – since the 2013 Sony Open in Hawai’i – Cochran has been stuck on 599 PGA Tour starts. This week will be his 600th.

Cochran is in the field at the Zurich this week playing alongside Eric Cole, whose regular caddie is Reed Cochran, Russ’s son.

The Backstryke putter was first released back in 2010, and its unique design helps shift the axis point of the putter closer to the CG of the head. And, the putter is getting a nod this week at the Zurich Classic, thanks to Cochran’s 600th career PGA Tour start.

The putter is certainly awesome, but don’t forget to check out Cochran’s full WITB from this week.

Drew Brees with a Super Bowl winning Scotty Cameron putter

Drew Brees, a legendary retired quarterback for the hometown New Orleans Saints, made an appearance at the Zurich’s Wednesday Pro-Am, playing alongside Zach Johnson, Ryan Palmer, and current Saints QB Derek Carr.

Brees’ bag included a TaylorMade Stealth2 Plus driver, a BRNR Mini 13.5-degree, a Stealth 5-wood, a mixed set of P-790 and P-760 irons, Milled Grind Hi-Toe wedges, and a custom Scotty Cameron “New Orleans Saints” putter, which Scotty made for Brees following his Super Bowl MVP-winning performance in 2010.

A post shared by GolfWRX (@golfwrx)

It should also be noted that Brees has his Venmo QR code as a bag tag.

If you’re gambling with Brees on the course, just know that not having cash won’t work as an excuse.

Brilliant.

See Drew Brees’ full WITB from the Zurich here

Stricker’s unrecognizable putter

Steve Stricker has made numerous upgrades to his bag recently, including a new TSR3 driver and T100 irons, but his longtime Odyssey White Hot No. 2 putter is still going strong. It’s the most recognizable unrecognizable putter ever.

Here’s a better look at Stricker’s flatstick, which he started using back in 2007.

Patrick Cantlay has opened the equipment-switching floodgates

Over on the PGA Tour’s Equipment Report this week, we covered Cantlay’s recent switch into Ping Blueprint S irons, and a Titleist TSR2 driver.

Cantlay hadn’t switched irons for about seven years, so the iron switch he made at The 2024 Masters came as a shock to the norm. He simply isn’t one to change gear very often, so anytime Cantlay makes a switch, it’s news.

It seems the floodgates of equipment testing have opened up a bit for Cantlay, who was also spotted testing a custom Scotty Cameron blade putter on Tuesday this week. By Wednesday, Cantlay was back practicing with his familiar Scotty Cameron T5 Proto mallet, but it’s certainly something to keep an eye on going forward.

Daniel Berger’s custom Jailbird site lines

Berger, who’s currently using Odyssey’s Ai-One Mini Jailbird mallet putter, has a unique 3-dot, 2-line alignment on the crown of his navy-white-navy-white mallet putter. Looking down at the putter, it’s easy to see why this alignment system would help; it just seems impossible to set up to the ball off-center, or misaligned to the target.

Also, for anyone worried, you can rest easy. Yes, he’s still playing the 2013 TaylorMade TP MC irons, which we highlighted in our recent “Modern Classics: Old vs. New” video testing series.

FitzMagic teams back up

Brothers Matthew and Alex Fitzpatrick are teaming up once again at the Zurich this year, and Bettinardi Golf hooked them up with some festive “FitzMagic” headcovers to match this week.

See what else is in Alex Fitzpatrick’s WITB here

And, with that, we say goodbye to the Zurich Classic in New Orleans. Don’t forget to check out all of our photos from this week, including 30 unique photo galleries full of equipment photos.

We’ll see you next week in Texas for the 2024 CJ Cup Byron Nelson!
