GIVEAWAY: Post Your Favorite TW Memory, Win His New Book (The 1997 Masters: My Story)

Published

on

Calling all GolfWRXers, Tiger Woods fans and people who like winning free stuff (we assume there’s a high degree of overlap); we’re giving away nine copies of Tiger Woods’ much anticipated and soon-to-be-released book.

Written in conjunction with the esteemed Lorne Rubenstein, “The Masters 1997: My Story” isn’t slated for release until late March, so this is you chance to get TW’s reflection on his historic 12-stroke victory early (can you believe it’s been 20 years?).

What do you need to do to enter? Something that’s not half bad in itself; reply to this giveaway thread with your favorite Woods-related memory.

We’ll pick nine winners in two weeks. And we suspect you’ll want to read the reflections of the WRX faithful that crop up between now and then, especially since we’re once again in the position of not knowing when Mr. Woods will tee it up again. At least we can console ourselves with tales of past glory.

Years ago in one of the desert events. Tiger’s ball ended up being blocked by a large boulder. My memory of him was standing and watching a group of people moving that rock so he could hit the shot.

…..The drunk frat rats & spineless rules official at the Wasted Management event was one of the reasons I just never did like the cat….It started with his 3rd “Amateur” where Earl’d been on staff with Titleist as an “advisor” for a couple hundred grand a year, he shows uo with a 5K a day golf coach & a shrink caddying for him. Without his unprecedented ‘amateur’ support team to unscrew him during an extra long lunch break, Steve Scott might’ve cleaned his clock – with his girlfriend (now wife) carrying his bag….win or lose, the whole Tiger thing woulda happened anyway. Nike was in attendance along with every sports agent & lawyer, so the win probably added a zero to a few contracts already in the works…He was fun to watch, still had a ‘little kid’ demeanor and I wanted to like him – despite his father’s BS.

Too many incidents, attitudes & behavior led me to believe he thought he was bigger than the game. The over the top drooling media and hype which still lives on. Honestly, despite the alledged TV ratings, I don’t know – or have ever spoken to a single golfer (who watches golf – or attends the area Tour event) who said they wouldn’t be watching or going to (XYZ) tournament ’cause Tiger wasn’t playing that week…

Tom Weiskoff said (something along these lines) and of course was railed on for everything from being jealous to racist – Yeah he’s great now – but he has no life. Has no money pressure, his father’s still alive, has no wife or kids or responsibilities – let’s see how he handles it when somethin bad happens – when life brings some adversity (OR SOMETHING to that effect)….

Fav Tiger shots to date – long ago – Bay Hill (??) an almost 200yrd 5 or 6 iron over water from fairway bunker – hit it tight….other fav – 2005 Masters 13 hole. From over the green – chip shot ran down into the creek…

Hanging out in Palm Springs during the skins game with friends. Tiger sends someone over from his posse and tells my friends girlfriend, Tiger wants to hang out with her. She basically tells him to tell tiger to fvck off. Good times.

US Master’s Tournament 2005, Par 3 Hole 16, chip in from the outside with the nike ball emblem showing before going into the hole. The most spectacular shot by TW in Masters history.

What’s the perfect mini-driver/shaft combo? – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Mini-Drivers and accompanying shafts. WRXer ‘JamesFisher1990’ is about to purchase a BRNR Mini and is torn on what shaft weight to use, and our members have been sharing their thoughts and set ups in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • PARETO: “New BRNR at 13.5. Took it over to TXG (Club Champ but TXG will always rule) in Calgary for a fit. Took the head down to 12, stuck in a Graphite Design AD at 3 wood length and 60g. Presto- numbers that rivaled my G430Max but with waaaaay tighter dispersion. Win.”
  • driveandputtmachine: “Still playing a MIni 300.  The head was only 208, so I ordered a heavier weight and play it at 3 wood length.  I am playing a Ventus Red 70.   I play 70 grams in my fairways.  I use it mainly to hit draws off the tee.  When I combine me, a driver, and trying to hit a draw it does not work out well most of the time.  So the MIni is for that. As an aside, I have not hit the newest BRNR, but the previous model wasn’t great off the deck.  The 300 Mini is very good off the deck.”
  • JAM01: “Ok, just put the BRNR in the bag along side a QI10 max and a QI10 3 wood. A load of top end redundancy. But, I have several holes at my two home courses where the flight and accuracy of the mini driver helps immensely. Mine is stock Proforce 65 at 13.5, I could see a heavier shaft, but to normal flex, as a nice alternative.”

Why Ludvig Aberg is my new favorite player – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing one of the new sensations in the world of golf – Ludvig Aberg. The 24-year-old finished solo second at the Masters a couple of weeks ago, and gained many plaudits, including from several WRXers.

One member, RoyalMustang, took to the forums to explain why Aberg is now their favorite player, saying:

“I loved the way the Ludvig was out there, having a great time, not taking himself or the situation too seriously. Even after the double at 11, he was like “well, that’s golf!” Loose and relaxed: that’s the way to play. It’s obvious he loves what he’s doing, he loves the big moments, and he loves being a part of it all.

Arnold Palmer was viewed that way. Just like Brooks Robinson was forever viewed as not just a great baseball player, but a great human being and friend to Baltimore.”

And our members have been reacting and sharing their positive takes on the young Swede.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • redfirebird08: “Ludvig has a great attitude, a great smile, and a great golf swing.”
  • otto6457: “I’m very lucky to have talked with Ludde several times at the Rawls Course at Texas Tech.  He’s a truly nice guy and very friendly.  Always said hello when we passed each other in the club house and was always smiling. Watching him hit balls on the range was a joy.  He has “that sound” and trajectory to die for.  There were many times he was out on the range in 30+ mph winds just hitting the most beautiful shots that just seemed to ignore the wind.  World class ball striker. And yes……..I am a fan boy.”
  • konklifer: “I like him. In an era of endless waggles and laboring, his swing and pace of play are a joy to watch.
