Trackman Showdown: GBB Epic Sub Zero, M1, M2 and LTD Pro Drivers

Trackman_4_Cover

WRXer TollBros set up an exceedingly thorough five-man test of the hottest drivers on the market, painstakingly analyzing looks, sound/feel, shot pattern/dispersion and performance. A truly exceptional post, and certainly in a must read if you’re in the market for a new driver this year. See the thread.

Stenson’s surprising new weapon

GBB_Epic

Henrik Stenson parted ways (at least temporarily) with his life-saving/money-making Callaway Diablo 3 wood. In its stead: the Iceman dropped a Callaway GBB Epic in the bag. Not surprisingly, WRXers had much to say about one of the most significant fairway wood change in recent golf history. See the thread.

Your first set of clubs?

wilson-1958-irons

Ah, a stroll down Memory Lane. Chazb asks, “What was your first set of clubs?” Predictably, the responses are great and the heady brew of nostalgia flows freely. Sam Snead Signatures, boxed sets from Sears… just an awesome look at where it all began for our community of equipment enthusiasts (image c/o EmperorPenguin). See the thread.

The WRXiest bag

wrx-wedge-featured

If “WRXiest” as an adjective isn’t a thing, it darn well should be. Our resident statistician, Richie Hunt, is actually the author of this thread to determine the WRXiest possible bag setup. Rich’s suggestions include the venerable Callaway Steelhead and a Byron Morgan putter. To see what the rest of the community thinks, check out the thread.

The coolest golfers come from this state…

hogan

Plenty of room for debate, here. North Butte kicks off this thread by asking which state the coolest (professional) golfers come from. His suggestion? Texas, thanks to the likes of Hogan, Nelson, Trevino, Crenshaw, Kite, Jimmy Demaret and Jackie Burke. As a Pennsylvanian, I’m obligated to remind everyone that the King was from the Keystone state. Anyway, see the thread for plenty of back-and-forth.

As Costco has proved with it’s Kirkland ball, getting good playing golf gear does not have to cost an arm and a leg…maybe people will start looking into some of the companies that offer very playable equipment at very reasonable prices…one for sure is Golfworks…..think about it you can pay $900 for a custom fit set of irons from the big boys or maybe less then $400 for a set of custom fit irons from a company like GolfWorks and in 3 years they will both be worth the same about $25 dollars….

Spotted: New TaylorMade Carbonwood driver hits USGA conforming list

Published

on

On Monday, a new TaylorMade carbonwood driver landed on the USGA conforming list.

The driver, seemingly called the Qi10 LS, features a Carbonwood sole, weight port as well as a T logo alignment mark. Per the list, the driver has been deemed conforming in three different lofts: 8, 9, and 10.5.

In our forums, our members have been sharing their thoughts on the news. Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • 54CW: “Pretty cool, I imagine an LS head means it’s possibly 440cc & pear shaped?”
  • jaffabell: “I wonder if Rory will have this in play this week in Dubai – it would explain the timing of this hitting the conforming list?”
  • madaboutgolf: “Usually a full launch from TM. Irons and fairways soon?”

GolfWRX will have its eyes peeled to see if the Qi10 is on the PGA Tour this week at the RSM Classic.

Best driver for a slight toe strike? – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing the best drivers for a slight toe strike. WRXer ‘Z1ggy16’ is on the hunt for a new driver, and kicks off the thread saying:

“Which driver is most stable on slight toe strikes? Not sure why but my TSR2 seems to really lose spin on even slightly toe side hits which makes the ball dive out of the air.”

And our members have been sharing their top suggestions in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • hammergolf: “My miss is toe side, and for me the OG Taylormade Sim Max performs better distance and dispersion wise than any other driver I’ve hit; and I’ve hit them all.”
  • AnthonyC143: “My buddy was hitting good drives with a ton of toe strikes on a Callaway rogue.  I was very impressed.”
  • DixieD: “Ping is the king of toe strikes, however I have found recent Callaway, from epic speed onwards, are seriously catching up but with much better feel off the face.”

What older drivers should companies bring back? – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing classic drivers that they would like to see reintroduced to the market. WRXer ‘mvhoffman’ kicks off the thread, saying:

“If you could choose an “old” driver for companies to bring back and revamp with today’s technology, what would it be?

I would love to see the 2016 Nike Vapor Fly be brought from the dead with some different materials adding stability to make it more playable today and be able to stand up to today’s drivers.”

And our members have been sharing their picks in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • Mike_C: “Original Ping Rapture, I thought at the time it was a real leap forward. Bridgestone J33 460. Maybe the best-looking and best feeling Metal driver I have ever owned. And long, just not super forgiving. If you could make something look and feel the same and add some forgiveness, I would buy it in a heartbeat.”
  • Ger21: “Nike VR Pro LE. Or the Z745 I’m playing now.”
  • ForeRight82: “Nike VR Pro Ltd. Edition. Loved that driver. I still have the 3 wood, which I also love. Sound, feel, etc. Everything was great. Maybe I’ll have to pick up another used.”
  • manima2: “I cannot believe there are three pages here and not a single mention of the GOAT… the 2016 OG M2. Would love to see how that head would perform with a carbon face.”
