Weights on the Top of a Putter? Meet Bettinardi’s “Antidote”
GolfWRX photographed a bold new putter from Bettinardi at the CareerBuilder Classic, which uses weights on the top of the putter head to boost performance.
Typically, weights are located on the sole of a putter and used to help golfers dial in head weight for custom-fitting purposes. With the Antidote, Bettinardi added the weights to the top of the putter head to explore how it could get the ball rolling faster on the green.
“We decided to put the weights on top of the putter, which raises the Center of Gravity (COG) of the putter to more closely more match the center equator of the golf ball and give a faster/truer roll,” said Sam Bettinardi, the company’s head of sales and marketing. “We felt this was a better way to have adjustability while also getting the ball to roll end over end quicker.”
The Andidote putters also have a sound slot behind the putter face, which removes weight from the center of the putter to give the putter head more perimeter weighting.
Without any weights, the Antidote weights 330 grams, but it can be made as heavy as 340-370 grams using either aluminum, stainless steel, copper or tungsten weights.
The putters are just prototypes for now, according to Bettinardi, but he says to “expect to see more of this technology down the road.”

A lot of busy to look down at. Maybe get used to it eventually, but would be distracting to say the least.

just like the boccieri golf, heavy putters have had for years, and they do have mallet designs in these. been using B3 -M model for many years – awesome putters giving great roll

Any evidence that this actually gives the ball a faster/truer roll?

I feel like these putter companies spend more time creating cool names (hexspermential) and funny logos (bubbling hex) than new decent putters.
