Rory McIlroy takes a shot at Brandel Chamblee on Twitter (again)

Published

on

As he recovers from his rib injury, Rory McIlroy has taken to Twitter to reprise his role as Brandel Chamblee destroyer.

McIlroy jumped in on a debate Chamblee was part of, ridiculing the Golf Channel analyst’s collage, understanding of the mandates of modern golf equipment, and, really, modern Trackman-informed swing theory.

Here’s Chamblee’s original tweet/handy collage.

And here’s Rory’s reply, featuring his ludicrous launch monitor numbers (complete with positive AoA!)

#fact, indeed.

Chamblee and the golf channel both suck. Have terrible coverage, viewing angles and way to many commercials. Not to mention only broadcasting what they dictate whom is important enough to be seen. CBS is just as awful, the masters broadcasting is pathetic.

Well, it’s January time for Brandel Chamblee annual reappearance to stir the pot and try to make his name relevant…His impressive 1 win career and gained these 15 minutes last this long are impressive with the same believability of CNN and MSNBC telling the truth.

Unbelievable that guys like Chamblee who likely never lifted weights can make silly comments that it was the weightlifting that was causing back issues. On the contrary lifting weights properly (which Rory does) actually makes your back stronger. And no squats are not bad for your knees or back.

Chamblee is just rambling to get attention. BC is the Skip Bayless of golf and that in no way is a compliment. #owned

The Golf Channel is having some serious problems. They are starting to trend towards what is ‘pretty’ to what is real and authentic. The morning show… don’t know their names but the really tall girl and the black dude are personalities. They no nothing about golf. Only what they’ve were pre-prepped on before the show. And then one of the guys said that Rory’s back problem due to lifting weights. Cue in directly to their Medical Doctor who said basically, “No it has nothingto do with lifting weights, these guys do proper form and have coaches right there with them. His back/rib injury is due to the swinging motion of the golf club. There is no other way to get that injury. (goes to diagram/pic).

Rory was interviewed at least a year ago questioning his weight lifting. He stated then that he Needed to do it to keep lifting because of a back problem he’s had since he was young. I agree with you on some of the GC staff.

When Chamblee comes on to talk I switch the channel to CNN even they make some kind of sense . Poor BC please replace him with Double D . Rory don’t even lower yourself to this dopes level ,just another mut that can’t report on golf. Still lost in the old boys club……. Hit down on the ball if you want idiot marks on your club ..”

Ignore Chamblee, He is irrelevant and adds no worth to the game of golf! Ignore him and the Golf Channel and maybe he will just fade away. As for hitting DOWN with the driver (please don’t try this at home)…LOL

If Rory got is launch angle up to about 16 and his spin down under 2,000 he might get some some decent carry and distance figures lol!

Chamblee…. very controversial human… with bad hair… needs to be a lot less Miller like… Rory is a great driver of the ball and we should listen….

Brandel is spiraling out of control. Even when commentating on a great round a player just shot, he digs as deep as possible to find a negative and compare him to Nicklaus, and sometimes even himself, which is an absolute joke.

To be fair, if it’s based on observation and measurement, that’s different from advocacy or prescription. But yeah, the science says otherwise, with regard to optimal performance, no matter what some players “are” doing.

I assume you are talking about yourself. You probably started twitching when someone insulted your boo Rory.

    • Dave

      Jan 18, 2017 at 11:17 am

Well Rory is the best driver of the ball in the game right now #fact. He’s worked hard to achieve that. Chamblee is only know because he is insulting, rude, and has very little knowledge compared to the people he runs down.
So you and the clueless wonder (Chamblee) want to insult Rory and say he is in love with himself, everyone else applies a little common sense and realizes he is very intelligent and not to mention successful at the game. #fact

Just saying that Rory’s social media posts seem a bit narcissistic at times

        • Winmac80

          Jan 18, 2017 at 8:45 pm

Not siding Rory but he needs to believe in himself. The mentality was carried out to the real world and you (whether it’s true or not) call it narcissist.

But if am Rory, I wouldn’t argue with people like Chamblee and reveal my secrets. I’ll let him give all the false info so I can win more tournaments and majors.

            Feb 16, 2017 at 10:43 pm

Hitting up on the ball using driver to max distance isn’t really a secret. PGA pros on average hit down very slightly. That data is available on trackman. Why do they do it? Not sure, but I think it feels like to them that they have better control keeping their swings similar across all clubs. Sometimes it could be the wind too, to keep it lower and controlled.

Rory is the nicest guy on Tour.great interviews and very generous with his time.

          Aren’t almost everybody’s?

I just think it’s hard not to come off that way. The fact that you put it out there at all means you’re making an effort to make it known, which has a hint of narcissism to it from the get-go, even if you’re a notable decent guy like Rory is generally acknowledged to be.

Really like Rory, and when he’s on he’s amazing, but where does your assertion that he’s “the best driver in the game” come from? He is not top-5 in either distance or accuracy on the Eurotour. In fact, he’s 67th in accuracy and 11th in distance, at 60.7% and 302.4 yards. Those numbers would put him at 111th in distance and 30th on the American tour. Hard to make a case that those numbers make him “the best driver in the game right now.” #actualfacts

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.

For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • btyh: “Holy offset.”
  • Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
  • bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing

Published

on

As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.

Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.
